    Blade: Voskhod (2)
    Soap: Stirling Clubman
    Brush: Semogue 830
Post: Witch Hazel, Corn Huskers Lotion

Very good shave and a nice way to end the year. I enjoyed a rare afternoon shave today. For some reason I got a couple of weepers today. Otherwise, it was very close and smooth.

Have a great day and a safe and happy New Year!

Last shave of 2013. What a fantastic shave. I think my best shave all year. Very close and extremely comfortable, not a bit of irritation with is rare for me. Even a good shave I usually get a bit of redness on my neck in my "problem area." I think the success its thanks to using my go-to razor (I've been dabbling with a open comb Gillette) and this new RazoRock sensitive soap. My second shave in a row I've tried adding in a 3rd XTG pass on my face. So far so good. Closer shave for sure, no added irritation or in-growns thus far.

    Boar Bristle Brush Week.

Last shave of the year 2013.
~ The Klar Kabinett Shaving Soap was face lathered with the Omega boar bristle brush.
~ Merkur 11C HD loaded with a Gillette Super Platinum (2 or 3).
~ Clinique moisturizer for post conditioning.
~ Wen Styling Cream for the hair.
~ Versace Pour Homme for the final touch.

This was my first shave with the Klar, thanks again Arley!

The Klar Kabinett is delightful in all respects, scent, slickness, lather and even post feel. Next time, I will use a brush with just a tad more backbone though and this soap will shine even more!

The Merkur 11C HD is always a wonderful razor to use. I like it for several different reasons. It shaves like a dream for one and not seen that often. Shaves like the more common HD's but an open comb.

Versace Pour Homme is a super clean yet subtle scent that I've liked more and more with each use.

    HTGAM day four

Prep: warm shower, Shea Moisture Three Butters Scrub
    Soap: HTGAM Lime
    Brush: HIS Synthetic
    Razor: Maggard MR10
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge yellow
    Post: cold water rinse
    AS: Captain's Choice Bay Rum

I soaked the whole puck and my brush in hot water while I showered. This really opened up the scent of this soap and made the lather a little quicker (not that it needs to be) to build. I face lathered again, something I'm not really good at, and the lime was a fresh and pleasant addition to the creamy slick lather. I can see this soap being a mainstay especially in warmer months.
My MR10 sang its way through three easy passes, and I eagerly applied the Captain's Choice for the first time right after a shave. I was surprised by the burn, I think their Cat 'o Nine Tails might be too much for me!

    Wednesday-Happy New Year!

    Prep: Hot Shower-Stirling Bath Soap
    Soap: Stirling Clubman
    Razor: ’66 Gillette Slim “6”
    Blade: Polsilver SI (1)
    Brush: Omega 10066 Boar-24mmx54mm
    Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman

I decided to start the year on a traditional note with Gillette and Clubman. I put a new Polsilver SI in the Slim and lathered up with the new Stirling Clubman. Great razor, great blade, great soap, great shave! I finished with Pinaud Clubman. A great shave to start off the year.

    Odin's Day:

Prep: Hot compress, Crown Shaving Co. Supreme Glide Preshave Lotion
    Brush: Beeline Boar
Soap: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine Glycerin
    Razor: FaTip Piccolo Nickel
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (1)
    Passes: WTG (1)
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno Active Naturals ASB

Just a simple one-pass SAS with a brand new blade to ring in the New Year. I caught one weeper, which I'm reasonably certain was just re-opening a weeper from yesterday. My face was still too chilly from walking home last night in the frozen temperatures to reach for anything mentholated for the aftershave, so I went with the super-effective (and utterly scentless) Aveeno.

Mold / Mildew could have set up in the knot years ago and when water hit it, the scent can be well ...
No you did not ruin the brush with mouthwash. Listerine would be an good cleansing agent for such a brush. You might want to get some current Williams soap or Arko and do a daily test lather and let the brush thoroughly dry for a couple of weeks to work out any residual smell.
If the smell is still there after this, you might want to have this one re-knotted.

My first shave of 2014 and it was a nice one. A small weeper near my chin but nothing serious at all. The Wilkinson Sword brush whips up a pretty damned good lather but I still do prefer my #6 horsehair. The Proraso Green soap delivered very well on the rich lather and cooling sensation, and Anherb conditioner/Floid Classic aftershave combination put those extra icicles in my face! ;) :D

Hello 2014! First time shaving with a straight razor! :shaver
I figure about 100 more shaves and I might start to get the hang of it.
Actually it wasn't too bad for a maiden voyage but true to form I followed some advice and ignored other. I should have just tried a few strokes on part of my face but figured "What the heck?, why not do your whole face? After all it's a holiday and you've got the time". So away I went and tried to do two complete passes.
3 nicks with two of them in the same place right in front of the base of my ear on both sides and then one good one on the jawline. Some redness at the bottom of my neck and bits of stubble left here and there. The areas I worried about the most (moustache, chin, and around the mouth) I actually did quite well at.
SWMBO showed up just as I finished probably checking to see if she needed to call 911.
Anyhow, finished up with my favorite he-man scent and I'm looking forward to mastering a new skill this year and learning some patience along the way.

Boar Brush Week -Day 3 & El Primero de 2014!

Pre: Hot shower, Shea Moisture Facial Scrub, homemade Citrus PSO
Razor: Mühle R41 (2011) with custom handle
    Blade: Feather stainless (1)
    Brush: Omega 49 Boar
    Lather: Marin De Candre Fougére
Shave: Two pass , plus touch-up=BBS
Post: Cold water rinse, alum block, Homemade BlackRiver Bay Rum

Tried the MDC soap for the 1st time—a very dense, lavender-like scented French soap. It generates ample slick lather without much effort, and required very little on the brush. At this rate, this jar will last forever. I find the scent (fougére = lavender, oak moss, coumarin; 'herbal', 'woodsy') quite pleasant and refreshing.
On the opposite end of the price scale, I used my Omega 49 boar—which is probably one of the biggest brush bargains out there. A terrific lather-making boar-brush that costs about $12.
I really enjoyed the new handle on my razor [Thanks, Andy! (AKASL)]. Nice weight and the R41 perfectly balanced in my hand! And it just looks so retro-industrial cool!
A wonderful way to start this new year!

    Happy New Year, everyone!

Congratulations, John! As other will no doubt tell you, it only gets better! Once the initial trepidation of dragging a surgically-sharp 3" blade across one's face subsides, confidence and competency grow with each subsequent shave. Good luck ! You're on your way now! :happy088:
