it's been a long time since I used anything from Arko, and I must say I still enjoy the stuff occasionally, especially the soap. A wonderful shave this morning from my Parker 91R razor- it has perfect balance and weight. ;) :D

A Shave To Make Me Question DE Shaving......

I have been using the Bic Metal shavers for the last 3 days - each time with the traditional face prep, shave cream with a brush, etc.....

Well, continuing the testing to see if the Bic would make the grade for a travel razor, I used Prep pre-shave, then the hot towel, then I used KMF Key Lime SC BRUSHLESS.

Well, even on day 4 with the same Bic Metal, the shave was one of the best I had ever had. And considering yesterday's shave left alot to be desired using Tryphon Lime SC[first version which is too hard and too close to soap a for me]and my KIN 079J, it has me seriously reconsidering this whole brush and DE routine. Stay tuned.

    Prep pre-shave
    Hot towel
    Prep pre-shave
    KMF Key Lime SC- BRUSHLESS
    Bic Metal - day 4
    Walgreen's Original AS
    Tryphon Mentolo ASB
    Pinaud Citrus Musk cologne.

After 4 shaves with the Bic, it is still going strong - probably one or two more shaves left. But tomorrow I will go back to DE shaving.

Not usual for me to post in SoS, but this was special...

Hot Towel on face for 2 min.

Shavemac Custom Forums' Brush 2007 -- 50mm model
Clauss 6/8 RP full hollow w/black plastic scales

TSD Bergamot/Patchouli/Peppercorn shave soap + shave cream (Supa latha! DE - LI - CIOUS)
    HWR
    Styptic + Alum
    CWR
    Will G's Patchouli AS Lotion
Ralph Lauren Polo Black AS + EdT

This was my first use of the Forums' Brush. I'll expand on the reason for this when I post again on this brush; I want to do a little more evaluating for a full review. However, I will say that I can agree with some of the comments about the brush...

Initially, the balance of the brush felt wierd. By my third pass, though, it felt quite natural. It is unique in that most of the brush's weight ends up in front of your grip -- the opposite of some others (e.g., B&B Forum Brush). THe loft exhibits a feeling that I've got in a couple of other brushes -- namely Shavemacs -- soft & flexible hair, but once lathered up, the hair moves as one (no splaying) contouring to your face; it's a luxurious feeling. Every pass of lather was quite thick and opaque on my face (the brush's density does cause it to hold onto the lather slightly) with some massaging for each pass. Here's a couple of photos after the initial use:

As for the shave, it was decent. The TSD SS & cream gave great skincare; my face felt soft, and the custom scent is outstanding. I felt a little "froggy" today, and went for BBS in and area where I have always had problems -- hence the styptic and alum. I'm looking forward to using the brush again, and will try to get a thorough review in the appropriate section.

    My most recent...

This was actually a 4:00AM prior day's shave, but since it was my most recent--here it is:

    > "Unscented" 100g Pre de Provence soap puck in vintage Seaforth mug (1)
    > Omega Boar #30266 brush
    > NOS Wilkinson Sword “Chromium Edge” (UK) blade (a "flea market" find!) (1)
    > Gillette British "NEW" from a trade (1)
    > Trusty old Alum Block
    > My own "home brew" aftershave balm! (1)

Well, the soap was outstanding...LOTS of lather very quickly from the boar brush, and it held up nicely through 4 passes! No discernible scent which can be a welcome change.

The razor/blade combo was a delight...mowing through my two day growth effortlessly. A first (WTG) pass, then XTG at 45 degrees, then XTG (the other direction) at 45 degrees, relathering between each...and voila!
I should have quit there. :sick007
Another relather with no additional soap needed from the mug (!) and a final pass...ATG. Whoops! :(

Pretty significant neck irritation, from "operator error" and unbridled enthusiasm with a new "NEW," having no real command of the proper blade angle (apparent with the final ATG "upside down" stroke on my neck). Oh well--live and learn! Still, a fantastic razor and incredibly sharp blade. Will the blade "settle down" and be better for subsequent shaves? We will see...

The alum block reminded me of the error of my ways, but stopped the bleeding from a small nick at the base of my neck.

Then an application of my "home brew" in the tiny jar under the brush in the photo...with full credit to Rick, a Moderator here at TSD:
-One part pure aloe vera gel
    -Two parts witch hazel
    -One drop Tea Tree oil
-Two drops Vitamin E oil (my idea)
--all mixed in the very small jar shown.
RESULT: Great stuff, soothing and quickly absorbed! The only drawback was that it felt just a tad "sticky" for a short time--perhaps a little adjustment of the ingredients will help?

Not significant damage to my skin, so a very good shave overall! :o
