    Menthol Monday! (02-11-13)

    * Shower
    • Soap: Irish Spring original bar soap
    • Shampoo: Head & Shoulders 2-n-1 Hair Endurance

    * Shave
    • Pre-Shave: Hot shower, Nivea Face Scrub
    • Razor: Merkur 180 Long Handle
    • Blade: Wilkinson Sword
    • Soap/Cream/Lather: Proraso (green) soap
    • Brush: Van Der Hagen Badger
    • Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG, XTG (opposite direction)
    • Post-Shave: Warm water rinse, Cold water rinse, T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Gillette Aftershave Lotion for Sensitive Skin, Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    • Blood report: Reopened nick from under the left earlobe

Gotta love the menthol Mondays. Proraso is currently my favorite soap and I absolutely love the protection and razor glide it provides. I have to say today's shave was successful. I have to switch out my blade soon as I can tell my Ol Wilkinson is on its last legs. Alot of folks don't like the Walmart $2 Wilkinson blades, but I am a huge fan of them, they give great, smooth shaves for me. They last about 4 shaves (more if you do less than 4 passes, as opposed to what I do)

    Simpsons Duke 2 Best Badger
    Captains Choice Bay Rum

Boy I think I'm glad I went back with the Simpsons, they perform just so lovely. Unfortunately all my current brushes are under a comfortable height for using my scuttle...I think I'll have to *ahem* get a couple of more like a Duke 3 and Chubby 2 to make some easier scuttle times.

    • Nivea ASB (with added menthol)
    • Pashana ASL
The H.I.S brush and The Fat are a perfect match. :love029: The big synthetic brush had no trouble whipping up a thick, copious lather. My 1947 Super Speed is a deceptively smooth shaver. In fact, it is so comfortable I have to be careful not to apply any unneeded pressure or I will get razor burn. I was going to go with a Feather blade today but when I opened my cabinet I saw that I had a Lord blade with two shaves on it and I decided to try a third. I was thinking I would PIF my remaining Lord blades but the blade worked pretty well today in the SS. My homemade Nivea Sensitive with menthol is a winner. Very soothing and very cooling. The Pashana reminds me a bit of Old Spice but the scent is much more sweet smelling and more powerful.

    Cheers, Lyndon

    Sedef Shavette/Perma-Sharp Super d3
    Arko Nem mandalina-mango mosturizer
    Old Spice AS/Rebul Lavanda Colonia

3 passes plus touch-up pass all with the Shavette today...I've learned a few more angles...got the bottom lip WTG and ATG finally...now the very bottom line of my neck next to the adam's apple is the only remaining trouble spot...I got it...but I need a couple more angles to make it easier...

All in all super close and smooth...I'm digging this Sedef Shavette...My barber today showed me some pointers in loading it...so now its no longer an adrenline rush changing blades...;) Even as I progress through this beginner stage...I'm getting the closest shaves....unbelievable! :happy108: my definition of BBS has jumped a notch...:happy097:

Another awesome face-freezing shave this morning - I received this wonderful Palmolive Cool cream from a good friend in Romania a couple of years ago. This stuff puts plenty of icicles in a man's skin, trust me. The 444 balsam and the Barbon will extend that iciness beautifully! ;) :D

I'm about 6 weeks into DE shaving now and my 3-pass technique is finally getting to where I wanted it to be. I'm consistently getting nice close shaves with no blood and no irritation. I thought the shaves were really pretty good at first since the irritation level was much less that I got with my Fusion but they just keep getting better :)

Pre-shave: Warm washcloth and Neutrogena Body Oil
    Lather: VDH Deluxe
    Brush: Omega Pure Badger
    Razor: Muhle R89
    Blade: German Wilkinson Sword (2)

Prep: Brush soaked in hot water, hot shower
    Razor: Matador Toro Mastiff Corto
    Blade: Polsilver Stainless (1)
    Brush: Semogue 1438 Boar
Soap: Proraso Green Tea and Oatmeal/Sensitive Skin
    • AS: Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue
Post: Cold Water Rinse, splash of aftershave.

I had a pretty good amount of stubble this morning so I thought I would give it a go with the Matador Toro Mastiff. Although the head looks similar to a Merkur, the gap is wider than the Merkur standard, more along the lines of a Progress on 5.5. The blade exposure it greater as well, about the same as a FaTip.

This is an aggressive razor, but do not let that scare you, as it is a very smooth one. The OEM has been making these razors for a couple of years, for those who have owned razors from this OEM before you will notice some improvements to the head design. Gone are the misaligned blade exposure and uneven gap, even then plating has improved, although it is a notch below the other Matador models.

Two passes and a little light buffing on my neck and my face is smoother than a pair of waxed legs. It may be aggressive but there is no "raw" feeling afterwards, just comfort.

I have a Merkur 37C enroute to me, I just hope that it can live up to its hype because right now the Toro Mastiff is going to be hard to top.

It might look like a DJ89 head but the larger blade gap of the Cadet CC is much more aggressive. (But, in a good way.) Great shave this morning with the Cadet CC/Super Max Ti combo and the Skin Bracer added the finishing touches. I quess I should have used the Mennen yesterday (Menthol Monday) but, I was so busy I totally lost track of Monday altogether! (And I thought when I retired I would have all this free time; Hah!)

    • Post-Shave: Warn water rinse, Cold water rinse, T.N. Dickinson Witch Hazel, Gillette Aftershave Lotion for Sensitive Skin, Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Blood report: No bloodbath today. Sorry!

Great shave today. I will say BBS. I used a brand new Gillette Proglide limited edition razor I bought at Walgreens. Damn good results. I love the Nivea Face Scrub. Lots of folks don't use it as a Pre-shave but rather just a general scrub, but I find it really helps lift the whiskers...and it just feels great.

I love the TOBS sandalwood. It provides amazing lather and fantastic cushion. Another plus is it leaves my washroom smelling like baby powder all day...which I like. lol.
