No shave for me today. I'm giving my face a rest before jumping back in tomorrow. I used to always take at least one day off from shaving over the weekends, but my new hobby has made me want to shave every day! So I decided to pull back a little and let some stubble grow out. I'll have a cold (for me) Menthol Monday shave tomorrow!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

    My SOTD
7 day focus on Merkur 180

    Prep- hot shower
    Razor - Merkur 180?
Blade - Gillette plat. Plus (1)
    Brush - trader joes synthetic
    Soap - Tabac
    Technique - wtg, xtg, atg
Post shave - witch hazel, neutrogena balm
    Cologne - undecided .
So today I start my 7 day focus with this razor. I'm not sure what the model is as I got it for xmas and the box didn't say. I think it's the 180.
What I do know is that, this razor has just given me my best shave EVER!! I've shaved with it before a hand full of times. My wife bought it based solely on the reviews from Amazon. I didn't have the heart to tell her I was going vintage after my weishi and she was upset when I got the red tip a few days before xmas. But I'm sooo glad she did!! Wow. Now I know my technique is improving, but this by far is because of the razor. I just used my red tip on Friday, with this blade and didn't get any where near this. I did skip yesterday's shave. I'm sooo smooooothe!! This is BBS FOR SURE. All the way through the shave I knew it was good. It was just at the end when I went over a few spots more times than I should have.. I got a couple of small weepers and a hint .. Small hint of irritation.. When I put on the witch hazel though.. I got no burn.. And usually i do..I'm extremely happy!
I'm still deciding on which cologne I'm going to wear. I think I may go with the Pinaud bay rum..
    Happy shaving!!

Thanks! The bowl hand handles but they were kind of broken so I broke them all the way off. I found it in the trash I think when we moved in to this house.. It's copper with a brass bottom. I had it in my garage for a couple of years with misc. screws and a couple of weeks ago it dawned on me that it may make a decent bowl for lathering..

There is all kinds of cool stuff around the house that can serve double duty. My bowl is a salsa bowl and stuff I use as photo props are just stuff from the house like wall paintings. :)

I used a hot sauce bottle that looks like a glass flask to pour in some Pinaud from a plastic bottle.. Lol I plan on repurposing small bottles as I use up the hot sauces. :)

It makes sense. Like blade banks, I use a fliptop lid altoids container. Why buy something if something from the house serves the same purpose and maybe even better. :)

Long time ago I tried a Bolzano and was too dumb to quit mid-shave. I still have the rest of the tuck and every now and then I notice someone using them and wonder if it was just me and maybe I should give them another try.

    SOTD Sunday 2/21

    Razor - Merkur 39c "Sledgehammer"
    Blade - Astra SP
Brush - Strongset w/ WD Black Mountain Badger
Soap - Maggard Mango Sage Tea

Today was my first shave with "The Sledgehammer". I must admit I was initially intimidated, mainly because of the razor's heft and comments here on TSD and elsewhere describing this razor as a weapon of bloodshed. I started apprehensively with a WTG pass. There was little feedback and it felt like I'd forgotten to put a blade in. I stopped and felt my face...it was already very smooth! I continued my shave with a 2nd XTG pass and a final ATG pass. I'm not even sure I needed the 3rd pass. This razor was one of the smoothest I've ever used. I "felt" very little, but the efficiency was amazing. It's 12 hours later and the remaining "shave" would be quite acceptable. Heck, I've left the house for work with fresh shaves that weren't this close! I can't wait for tomorrow.

I commented on the size of this razor. Not only is it larger, but it's much heavier than most of my razors (except, perhaps my Ikon 102 with the OSS handle).

Here it is with my 1958 Fat Boy and my Edwin Jager DE89 (a little blurry, but you get the idea):

Bob, I've lost all interest in whatever razor or soap you might be using as my attention is only focused on counting how many shaves you're adding up on the P74
