I would like to welcome you to my Sunday Shave (20.02.2022)


Razor: Mulcuto Schrägschnitt // Blade: Gillette Bleue Extra // Soap: Mikes Natural Soaps Lime // Brush: Semogue 1305 // Aftershave: Weleda ASB

I received the razor on Friday, as well as the soap. The age of the razor can be defined „within the time of the 2nd World War“.

Now to the shave…is the razor a good one? NO!!! It is a GREAT one!!! German engineering at its finest. The razor has two sides, one „aggressive“ side and one „gentle“ side. For the first pass i have used the aggressive side. You can definitely feel the blade, but it is not uncomfortable or scratchy or anything negative. After the first pass i thought „Wow“, this was one of THE best first passes i had in near past which i can think of. Extremely thoroughly without being aggressive.

For the second and third pass i switched to the „gentle“ side. Less bladefeel, which not means that you cannot feel the blade anymore, but it is more subtle. The Gillette Bleue Extra took charge of that too. A very gentle and smooth blade. So, across the grain without any problems. I had one little bloodshot on the neck but there has been a little pimple or something like that, which was not the fault of the razor.

In the 3rd pass (against the grain) the razor had shown it´s full potential. No resistance from the stubbles, it shaved through the whiskers like a hot knife through butter. Amazing.

The lather could have been better, but that was my fault. I normally use Synthetics and now i know, that i am too stupid to use boar and / or Silvertips…the lather was not as good as with my Synthetics. Definitely good, but not THAT good as i wanted it to be. Nevertheless, the scent is fantastic. Pure Lime and nothing else. Someone might find this scent boring, because it is definitely not complex, but i love it. Simplicity at it´s best. Well done Mike.

At the end of the shave i ´ve used a 80% turkish Lemon cologne where i thought it would sting like hell, but man have i been wrong…just the blink of an eye there was a burning sensation and after that…nothing…i am SO impressed of this razor and think that the shave will be even better if the lather will be better. Wednesday will be the second shave with this razor. I cannot wait. Love this thing.

Now i applied the Weleda ASB and my skin felt wonderful. All in all a extremely satisfying shave and i am more than happy that i bought the razor.

I really like that scent. I think it smells like an Asian Acqua di Parma Colonia. The bamboo note makes this very unique.

The C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream lathered well with the Bunny B-400 Brush by Tom. Two passes and touch ups with the Stahly Live Blade Razor with a Wilkinson Sword Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Osage Rub. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Great shave this morning. The New Deluxe is fast becoming my favorite Gillette in the den. It is amazing to think that a 92 year old razor can hang with anything else in my den.
