SoS: February 24, 2014 - March 2, 2014

The fibers are thinner and softer than the Muhle, thus less back bone. Had to go back and watch this video before I got it lathering well.Realized I just needed to lather with a bit more pressure. Ever since then its been great. Quality handle on it too, heavy wood stained nicely, but my buddy Scott Pav could have turned it better. I've been meaning to do a quick face lather vid with it, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

 

Well I finally got around to doing my review about the products I received as a newbie pif. I received a lord L5 DE safety razor. 3 persona blades, a Cappuccino shave mug, a VDH boar brush, and shave puck. I love the mug, especially since I am a woman and shave my legs. Lots of room to make ample lather with the brush I received. The VDH shave puck is good too, not a masculine sent and not a feminine sent and it lathers well and moisturizers nice. I have say I like it. I've used 2 of the blades one in my lady gillette and the other in the pif L5. The first thing I noticed about the razor is the weight. It is a very light razor, also it has a pretty big blade gap. For the razor being as light as it is it delivers a close shave but a tad to aggressive for my taste. I nicked myself but that was my fault and came down to technique. I do like it though and plan to try to mod it to add some weight to the handle and girl it up a little. Thanks again to @Cool Breeze and @fram773 you guys are awesome!

 

My honey badger is turning out to be a good little shaver. She is mastering it rather well. She won't let no little nick get her down. LOL. What a great PIF these nice people sent out. Thanks guys, she can leave my stuff alone now.

I used the La Toja Cream this morning with my Plisson Grey Badger brush. Good choice! Along with the Slim and Russian Green, I got a great shave. I finished up with Tabac.

Except for a couple of tiny weepers near my chin, a perfectly BBS shave - this Aquabarba Classic cream from Tunisia which is used in barbershops over there is terrific. It has a lovely old-school scent with awesome lather and it's very moisturizing and protective. I can't say enough good things about the Polar Ice aftershave - it's a top favourite of mine.

Can't have a good shave without lather, and I had great lather today. Probably could have done four of five passes, but I kept it to two with touch ups. Not as much irritation from the 7 O'Clock green today which was a nice improvement.

This mornings shave is all about the brushes. I had a good shave with the Bema, a little strop time seemed to calm down the edge. The VDH Deluxe Shaving Soap face lathered very easily with the Frank Shaving finest badger brush. It took two passes and some touch ups on the neck with the Gillette Fat-handled Tech and Gillette 7 O'Clock blade to give me a near BBS shave. The cold water rinse followed by Thayers Cucumber WH and Family Dollar Old Spice after shave left me smooth, clean, and refreshed. Nice...

A Bay Rum scented day. I had to reach way in the back of the cabinet to find the Col Conk Bay Rum. The soap and the TSD Signature scent go well together. It was an easy 2 pass Darn Fine Shave.
