Today's shave.

Prep: hot shower, Neutrogena Face Wash.
Brush: Burma Boar.
Razor: '62 Slim set on 5 for the first pass, 3 for the second.
Blade: Personna Lab.
Cream: Palmolive Menthol.
Post: cold water rinse, Fine American Blend.
Hair Product: Lockhart's Medium Hold Pomade.

Another two pass BBS shave with loads of menthol. I didn't get any nicks, burn, or irritation of any kind. I settled on this set up to try and knock down the number of items in my den and to become more practical. I have to sell off a lot of stuff to get there.

I really want to take some time to talk about the pomade I used. This is the second time I've used Lockhart's Medium Hold. It comes in a cool 4 oz. tin that is literally filled to the brim. It's also handmade in Michigan. I'm pretty happy with it after the second use. It's oil based and it's something I need to get used to. Oil based pomades can be very difficult to get out of your hair and you might end up ripping it out trying to wash it out. Other than that, I'm impressed with the hold, the medium shine, and the scent. To me, it smells just like Proraso Red.

Ingredients are as follows: petrolatum, microcrystalline wax, beeswax, lanolin, castor oil, coconut oil, parfum.

 

I have mixed feelings about the vintage Superspeed. It is my birth year razor, and I love the fact that it looks great for its age, better than I do! So far as shaving goes, I have learned to use it and it performs OK, but I like my modern three piece razors better, so far as shaving performance goes.

The Superspeed feels a little too light in the head, and I have to give it more pressure than with heavier razors. The Personna med prep blades with well for me in it. Of course, we learn to use a given razor, and it becomes comfortable until we try something else.

 

Ive had one for a week and am really trying hard to like it. I find it lacks the back bone I prefer.

 

Stay with it - I rather disliked the brush when I first started using it - especially the handle and also the lack of backbone as I face lather a lot - then after maybe 2-3 weeks something changed and it's now my best performing brush for bowl/scuttle AND face lathering

 

To me the TOBS Sandalwood cream had much more of a powdery barber shop type smell. AOS Sandalwood cream smells more like what I think of as Sandalwood. Cathie's bubbles Santal smells very similar to AOS. Lathers about as easy but rinses cleaner. I tested the pre-release of Captain's Choice soon to be released sandalwood soap and it also smelled very similar. The scent was a dead ringer for the matching aftershave. I want to try Cold River and Paraso sandalwood.

 

I'm with you on your opinion of the SS. As much as I'd like to, I've never had a decent shave with a SS and I've owned 5. Five because I figured I must have purchased a defective razor (considering how highly praised these razors are) so I bought another, and another.....

3 pass to another outstanding BBS - no nicks, no irritation. I found the sweet spot lathering the Neumann's this morning!

2 pass shave with a few touch ups for DFS - Enjoyed the Neumann's so much yesterday used it again today. Love the scent of the 1907.

No pic today - The wife, daughter and I left early to head to the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in NC. - Some people drive away from winter storms, we drove into its path. Currently sitting in our cottage watching the light snow fall. (light for now)
