Tried something a little different, mixed it up with cold towel prep. Still soaked the brush in hot water and had warm(ish) lather, but after every pass I did a cold water rinse. I'm still having a hard time kicking the razor burn, and though it's definitely less than when I started, it's also definitely still there.

    Cold Towel
    40's style SS
    Super Iridium (4)
    TGN Silvertip
    Dalan D'men unscented shave cream
    Neutrogena Post Shave Balm
    Acqua Velva Musk

I feel like the cold water rinses somehow tighten up the pores and make the skin a little tougher and (hopefully) less prone to irritation. Guess I'll find out in the morning. The Iridium seems to have hit its peak at the 3rd shave, but I'm going to try and get another shave or two with it, see how it does. Also, digging the Neutrogena post shave balm, it goes on slick but not greasy and is nice and protective. Got 1 or 2 nicks, still a 4 blade shave.

ocharlas. I had similar problems from time to time while DE shaving, switched to a straight razor and my problems are all history, If I recall correctly you got a Wade & Butcher Frameback less the frame on top, a little while back. Have you honed or had it honed up yet ? if not you should, and give it a try. Straight razor shaving is irritation free for me. There is a learning curve, but it pays off in the long run. Good luck in your shaving quest my friend, Mark

Thanks for the input Mark! I actually haven't yet gotten it up to par as I don't have the tools nor the knowledge to tackle it myself. However, I am sending it (along with several other straights) out to Glen at Gemstar Customs. I have 6 straights that are all ebay strays, so I figure if he needs to he can mix and match parts and I should be able to get a couple shave ready razors. But the W&B is definitely one that I'd like to see cleaned up. I probably won't have anything for another couple weeks, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Thanks again for the tip!

No prob buddy, I'm sure Glen will take care of those for you, I've got a Heljestrand on the way here, I got from Glen last week and looking forward to shaving with it ! he does a great job on straights. Hope you find a resolution for the irritation, I know how you feel.

    Razor: Merkur 23C
    Blade: Supermax Super Stainless
    Brush: EJ Best Badger
    Cream: TOBS Avocado
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Pashana Splash

A fine shave this morning, using the 23C/Supermax combo, with the TOBS Avocado performing at its usual high level. I tried to go easy with the Pashana (it's pretty potent stuff). I wish the bottle had a slightly smaller opening, but using my finger to constrict the flow worked out well. I didn't want to give anyone (including me) a headache!
