Thursday: Razor - Gillette Richwood Blade - Super-Max Super Platinum Brush - Simpson Beaufort Cream - Ingram A/S - Caldey Abbey Lavender -- John
Thursday, January 20, 2011 Razor: Edwin Jagger DE87 Blade: Dorco 301 Brush: Simpson Emperor 2 Soap: Pre de Provence A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, 4711 Splash Well, the best I could do this morning was a DFS with the Dorco 301. I had received a sample pack of these a long time ago, but put off trying them because of a bad experience I once had with a Dorco 300. The 301 is better, but isn't the blade for me. The shave was pretty rough and uncomfortable--I was actually surprised that the end result was as good as it was. But I'm used to the smoothness afforded by Iridiums, Astra Superiors, Treet Dura Sharps, and Gillette Yellows (my current list of favorites). There were no nicks or weepers this morning, and the facial discomfort has subsided, but I do not see a Dorco in my future (or Futur, either ). That's not to say, of course, that the 301 would not work for anyone else--I had heard positive things about these blades.

That's a beautiful Fox Mark! Did you pick that one up on E-bay? I think you outbid me on that one! LOL (I tried for one just like it a while back.) You have inspired me...I'll have to break out the Polo this morning. Great pic BTW!
Thanks Bruce!! It's a great shaver! Just honed it up last night and had a great shave with it this morning! It was like buttah!! Can't remember where I got that one. Think I bought off the BST forum at B&B.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011, about 11:00am Tolsom Facial Cleanser Hot Towel with Pantene Pro-V on Face Proraso Pre-Post Cream Vulfix 247 Pure Badger VDH Deluxe, face lathered, brush reloaded before each pass Merkur 11c Open Comb ASCO Super Stainless Blade (4th and last shave, stropped on arm) Cold Water Rinse Thayers Unscented Witch Hazel Neutrogena Triple Protect Facial Lotion Remarks: This is actually yesterday's shave, I just got around to write about it. It had been more than 48 hours since my last shave, so my beard was quite thick at the time. Unlike the previous time when I had the best shave ever, this one was just barely okay. My first pass, which is a North-South pass, was good but around the second pass, which is South-North, the performance of the blade started to deteriorate. The third pass, which was a full blown against the grain pass, was very uncomfortable with several nicks and cuts. At that time I decided to retire this blade and move on to the next one in the sampler pack. Still, this blade is more or less the best blade I have used so far. Despite all that, once the bleeding stopped and Neutrogena was applied, I found the final result to be quite satisfactory. The next shave, which will take place in about a couple hours or so, is going to be with a Super-Max stainless.
Hey GI, are you saying that the weather was nice and warm down there in Gater Land. lol I'm going to be coming down to Tampa in March and I hope the weather is nice by then. Last time I was down to Boca Ratan I picked up a nice Panama in Miami but it flew off when I was taking the Cruiser over to Catalina Island one day and by the time I fished it out of the water it was pretty trashed. I hope to pick up a nice one while I'm down there in March. (By nice one I mean good but cheap!) lol
That would be cool! I will be at the Tampa Airport Marriott Hotel for an Imperial Shriner's Seminar for 4 days and should have some evenings to enjoy the local fare. (I won't have a car so I have to stay around the Hotel/Airport area.) We will get things organized before the time comes to meet. Kickin' back a cold one with my Shave Brothers sounds great! I don't know how far away from Tampa you live but I would like to meet you'all!
