My planned week for DE razors came to an abrupt halt with the arrival of my Broman SE. In use similar to the Focus R48 but without the learning curve for fitting a blade.
3 passes for a fantastic finish. I should comment that as the soap was so slick....there was very little blade feel after the first pass but stubble was still evident in the shaved off lather.

I hope everyone has a Happy and Prosperous 2020.

Happy New Year my dear friends!

    My first shave of 2020:

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
    Super Speed/new Derby
    Stirling Glacial Black Cherry SS
    Stirling Glacial Unscented ASB
    Alcolado Glacial Menthol Splash
    Old Spice Cologne
    Music: Mayaula Mayoni “Alpha BC”

Oh my goodness, what a freeze this was - as soon as the lather made contact with my face I started to feel that intense menthol sensation from the Glacial Black Cherry soap and it seemed like every stroke made it feel colder. The scent, which is so beautiful filled my bathroom, and the menthol fumes made my eyes tear but I loved every minute of it. The Glacial Unscented balm prolonged the freeze and did such a great job of moisturizing my skin as well as soothing it. The Alcolado Glacial makes a terrific, frigid aftershave and it smells really nice. A wonderful BBS shave to get the new year started!

I don't know if you noticed any differences with the previous year and I am more convinced than ever that they recycled us a used year. And not even the best.
Maybe I should have ordered it on Amazon, at least there is the possibility to return it!

Santa Klaus went home to rest for 12 months. He did know how to choose the right job: a night of work and 364 days of vacation ...
But compared to politicians, he works at least one night a year and does no harm!

And now that Santa is on vacation, Mary Xmas came to see me and took the photo today.

    Hi Friends,

First shave of the new Year (01.01.2020)

    Razor: Karve Brass with C-plate
    Blade: Sputnik
    Soap: Saponificio Varesino Stella Alpina
    Brush: PAV Brushworks Goldcoast
    Aftershave: Dopo Barba di Camaldoli

First of all, Happy New Year to all of you. Good luck, satisfaction and health should be your companions way.

So this was it ... the premiere shave in the new year / new decade is in the books.

I was looking forward to it and was not disappointed.

Pre-watered the brush for about 15 minutes. Then opened the soap and soaked up this great scent.

Put the excess water from the brush on the soap to soften the surface a little and let it sit for about 2 minutes. Soapy water as a pre-shave in the face.

I tried a method to lather that I had previously only used once. Circled on the soap with the relatively dry brush for 15 seconds, then dipped the tips in water again circled on the soap for 15 seconds. There was also a third round. So a total load of 45 seconds of soap added.

The knot was now filled accordingly. Shiny, choppy, yoghurt foam. In the face with it.

The sputnik was inserted into the Karve and the joy continued to increase. Is that a pretty razor!!!

After the first few strokes it was already clear where the journey was going. Very thorough and very very gentle.

The 3 passes were more than great. The Karve is an incredibly great razor, which has let me know today that the purchase was a direct hit. Gratitude spreads in me ...

So at the end, wash off the soap residue with warm and cold water and used my alum block for testing. Only a minimal sizzling on the skin. Very pleasant.

Last but not least an aftershave, which I had already forgotten and which by chance fell into my hands again. A very subtle fragrance that is actually extremly hard to describe. Not nearly as aquatic as a "typical" blue aftershave, rather a bit powdery ... the skincare seems to be right. The Italians know how to do things.

I now enjoy this great shave a little bit and thank you so much for sticking with me. The text has become a bit longer ... :lyrtuy5:

Have a great day, enjoy your shaves and take care. 1577709502249.jpg

Razor - Vintage Gillette Superspeed circa 1947-1952 (re-plated in nickel by Razor Emporium)

Brush - Declaration Grooming "Fatty" in custom green color
Brush stand by Desire Metal Works
    Razor Stand by RV Shaving
Suribachi Lather Bowl handmade by Of the Dirt Pottery
    Shave Soap - Pinaud Clubman
    Diane Neck Duster

Deodorant - Pinaud Clubman *dusting powder
    Fragrance/Aftershave - Vintage Pinaud Clubman

***EDIT - 3 pass, BBS. Got some tiny bloody dots on my neck. Not unusual with a fresh blade in the Superspeed. I used my Clubman Styptic Pencil on the dots. I also shaved the back of my neck. I used the duster with the Pinaud powder under my arms and on both the front and back of the neck. Gotta say that the Vintage splash survived time well and smells great. I highly recommend this full set. From bath to final powder it's vintage grooming that really should have stayed mainstream. This just came out like a barbershop shave personified.
