    7/13/2015 Tobacco Tuesday!

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: GEM Featherweight, The Hornet straight razor
Blade: GEM Blue Star SE blade (2)
    Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair
    Soap: RazoRock - Tobacco #2
    After: Home made ASB
    Cologne: Polo Extreme Sport

It is Tobacco Tuesday!! The Vie Long brush whipped up the Tobacco #2 into a thick lather this morning. The GEM and The Hornet knocked down the stubble with ease. The Polo was a nice finish for this Darn Fine Shave.

    Have a blessed day!

    Tyr's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Invigorating Face Wash, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
    Lather: RazoRock One-X croap
    Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC
    Blade: Bic (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (7, 8, 9)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Myrsol Metilsol AS splash
    Cologne: Cashmere Mood

Back to face-lathering today, and what a difference. I also used a little of the bloom water as a preshave treatment; the combination really lifted and softened my beard. Day 3 still shows the Bic going strong, with nary a nick nor weeper. Because I used both the Bloc Osma alum and the Metilsol, my skin feels extra tight after the DFS+ shave.

    30 day rule - Day 14
MDC Lavender Face Lathered with a touch of TOBS Rose
    Ladas blade
    Slim Adjustable set to 8
    3 passes

I changed the setting on my slim from 7 to 8. This has helped the areas where I have the heaviest growth and did not seem to cause any discomfort. I will keep it at 8 for a few days and see what happens. In the past when I set the slim too high I would start getting weepers, so I will keep a close watch.

Maggard Limes & Bergamot today. 20 seconds to load the oscar11 HMW. Great, easy, thick, lather. I loaded a new Perma-Sharp in the Maggard OC. Just an OK shave with the Maggard OC. I finished with Krampert’s Frostbite.

    Ada's Sandalwood
I tried a new to me soap today - Ada's, thanks to my friend Daniel Idzan. This one is Sandalwood pretty straightforward and similar to Proraso Red in scent, but not as warm, if that makes any scent sense. The soap lathered easily in my vintage teacher mug using my HIS brush. I had a solid two pass shave with a couple small weepers. I finished up with Cologne Russe and Van Yulay Idzan balm - a sample that calms any burn and smells great- similar to TdH.
The pre shave comparison switched to a new pairing: Maggard's vs Shea Moisture. My first impression is that both oils felt good going on, with SM providing a bit of warmth. I don't think either oil had much effect on the shave today, but that is why I'm doing this comparison over two days. Tomorrow I'll use a known soap and switch sides with the oils to see what works better.
Prep: Maggard's pre shave oil; Shea Moisture pre shave oil
    Soap: Ada's Sandalwood
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: '59 Fatboy
    Blade: Voskhod (2)
AS: B&M Cologne Russe, Van Yulay Idzan balm sample

    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Post Shave Gel, Old Spice original Shulton 1973 - 1975 Blue Ship Decanter AS
Can't put it down! Locked in a new Feather blade in the Feather and off we go to another great shave. Whipped up some great lather with the TOBS and the Badger. I let the weight of the razor do all the work, for a nice 2 pass shave. Another great shave with the Feather, and very fast. Finished with the WH, and then some soothing JB. After cleanup some vintage Old Spice. I'm just an Old Spice junkie, but it has to be original Shulton. Have a good one y'all!

    7/14/2015 Head SOTD

First shave with the new Futur. I'll reserve judgement on the shave until I've cranked it all the way up. As far as aesthetics, this razor surprised me a little. Turns out I definitely prefer the shorter handles like the standard Progress and the Fatboy. Not sure if it's just because I've gotten used to those razors, but I definitely found the Futur a little awkward. The matte finish might actually feel more slippery than the standard chrome. I even rubbed some alum on the fingers beforehand. It still felt more slippery than my polished chrome handles. The asymetrical cap bothers my OCD a little bit, but it's manageable...

Neutrogena wash followed by Wet towel soak and Corn Husker's Lotion
Head lathered with Stirling Barbershop using my Omega S brush
2 Pass shave (WTG/XTG) with the Futur and a fresh Astra SP. First pass on 3, second pass on 4.
Finish with hot shower, cold rinse, and Tend Skin

Results were CCS, no weepers or irritation. The angle was a little more difficult to maintain than my Progress or my Fatboy. That may have been mostly due to the lower gap setting. We'll see how things go tomorrow cranked all the way up to 6.

    30 Day Rule - July 2015 - **MODIFIED**MODIFIED**MODIFIED
    July 14th
    Razor - Long Feng
    Blade - [IMG](2)
    Brush - Vie Long 12705
    Soap - Tabac
Post - Cold Water splash, Alum, Nivea Original

After yesterday's surprisingly good shave with the Rimei I as pretty stoked to try the Long Feng. Again, less than $3 on the bay shipped from China. I think I paid around $5.60 for both. The Long Feng is a bit lighter than the Rimei, feels a bit cheaper and they clearly cut back on the metal as can be seen from the underside. The head geometry features more of a curve on the base creating a steeper blade bend than many razors so aggression is possibly higher. Looking at the blade gap, though, it's hard to tell.

    [IMG][IMG]

So, I put Tabac in the Vie-Long saddle and lathered up. Again I added a bit of water to get the right consistency. Love this brush and Tabac is one of my favorites. First pass was quite interesting and very nice. Probably due to the thin metal in the head this razor really sings. Yet, it was extremely smooth. But it provided a better first pass than the Rimei as far as reduction is concerned. Lathered again and went XTG. Again great feedback from the razor and smooth and comfortable is how I'd describe it. Lathered again all over and did an ATG followed by a couple of minor touchups on the neck. I noticed just t bit of burn on the neck so I may have some irritation but overall a great feeling shave. The finish.........DFS but extremely close to the baby. Almost but not quite. Hit the alum and did feel a bit of extra burn compared to yesterday but not bad at all.

Once again I'm very impressed and pleasantly surprised. The razor looks like a Yuma or maybe a Merkur 1904 clone, feels like a cheap toy and shaves like a Vintage Gillette. Very very nice. I will be keeping both of these razors in my den. I can see them as travel razors, especially the lighter Long Feng, as well as just something to keep for a break in rotation. I could honestly use one of these as my daily shaver and be very content. I'm not sure how the finish will wear on them but hey, for the price, I could order a dozen in and have backups for a long time. These would also be great choices for a newbie wanting to get in as cheaply as possible. The only downside is the shipping time from China but there may be stateside suppliers if I looked.

The Feather is in the mailbox. I'll be unpacking it in a bit and getting ready to go back to the Rule in the morning, but this has been great fun and enlightening as well!
