    Soap: Grooming Depot Elan
    Post: Captains Choice North balm

First time with Grooming Depot soaps, have heard many stellar reviews of their soaps and this stuff lived up to my expectations. The scent is a bit light and paired well with North balm since both are juniper dominant. These artisans have really been stepping their game up, this is a vegan formula that can compete with most tallow soaps or any soap formulas for that matter. Excellent lather quality. The only downside I have found is that the soap has been siting with no lid for a few days and is still a bit moist, Wholly Kaw soaps exhibit this same trait and it is no big deal since both are excellent products and this is minor issue, I may scoop some out and bowl lather next time. This was a great experience with this soap so far and I look forward to see what new scents Grooming Depot comes up with in the future. Hats off and thank you for making top notch products for the wet shaving community. Hope everyone enjoyed their shaving experience!

Got a decent shave yesterday. Love the scent of this soap, it is a bit light but is clean and fresh plus it whips up a creamy lather. Did get a couple nicks on problem areas but overall was a swell shave.

Epic shave this morning. The Jeeves soap made a perfect lather and has a clean barbershop type of scent. Finished with a BBS shave with no irritation or drama whatsoever. Hope everyone had a great shave!

July 22 - Grand Blade Trial [IMG] Edition

    Razor - Feather SS
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Truefitt & Hill 1805
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    Post - Alum

I think I can honestly say that there is such a thing as too mild of a Feather blade. I picked up just a hint of some tugging tonight, and on only the second shave that hardly seems possible. Two questions, though. First, is this really just a Pro blade with a guard or do they actually use a duller blade for these? Second, now much does the guard cause dragging just by being there? There's clearly some effect, and more than I remember from the Pro Guard blades.

Now, having seen the guard design on this blade it is clearly the least likely to cut because of how well the blade is protected. So I'm thinking we should assume a bit of a drag on performance. What you trade that for is a safer shave, of course, and one that is far less harsh as well.

Two passes, some touch up and I'm at a decent DFS. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. And alum is again pretty quiet so there's that. Again, for someone with sensitive skin who wants to try Artist Club shaves, this blade might be great. And, for those wanting to learn without the same level of risk as a regular blade, this one would be a good choice as well.

I have ordered the Pro Guard, the Pro Light and the Kai Mild Guard blade so I can run them all against each other. I read in some places that quite a few regular shavers have stayed with the Pro Guard just because it takes the risk down. Nothing wrong with that, of course, I'm just curious which blade performs the best for the least risk.

Dayummmmmm, is my face ever frozen to the max after having three passes with the Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap. That gorgeous Sharp Dressed Man scent was ever present and the menthol sensation got progressively stronger with each pass. The Lucky Tiger balm also has a lot of cooling to it as well as a wonderful soothing and moisturizing. I felt a bit sad because I finished off the last of my Snake Bite aftershave - it gave me a great final freeze. The Astra blade surprised me with such a BBS result on its last day!

    Wishing everyone a nice Sunday!
