Tuesday, July 19th 2011 Razor: Merkur Futur Blade: Lord Platinum Class Brush: Thater Stout 1 Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Soap: Taylor Lavender (Old Formula) A/S: Acqua di Parma When I heard that the Taylor Lavender soap in a bowl had been discontinued I could not resist the urge to adopt a bowl for myself. I am glad that I did! Dr. Moss asserts that this is actually a tallow soap and my experience agrees with his assertion. I enjoyed a great shave followed by a splash of Acqua di Parma.
Wilkinson Sword 7 day set/Burma soap/Rubberset Boar/Aqua Velva Not a bad maiden voyage today with the old Wilkinson. Honed up the blade, table stropped, then hand stropped. A little tugging was experienced, it could use a little more time on the hones and strops. But overall a DFS, I think it may be worth investing some time in the blades to bring this old girl back to her glory. Great Shaves, Gentlemen.
Talk about your frost-bite morning! :freezing:freezing:freezing My pleasure. I'm just glad it's working for ya! happy088

I've been considering the Wilkinson for a while now. How's blade maintance? and It looks like a mechanical monster, how's the weight?
British Laurel Vintage Razor with red Personna Simpson Duke 3 LaToja Stick Mennen AS Have a nice day!
Tuesday, July 19 Prep: hot shower Lather: Arko shaving stick Razor: Mühle R89 Blade: Gillette Platinum (1) Aftershave: Nivea anti-irritation lotion My first go with the Mühle. I need to get used to the different balance and weight compared to the Wilkinson. Cheeks are smooth, neck could be better. 3/5 What's that container type thing you store your Arko stick in?
I had my doubts about Arko. But after spending 2 months in New Orleans hotel, using an Arko stick exclusively, I kinda got hooked myself.
I yanked it out of the grab bag, I am not sure where it originated, I think Jody put it in the bag. It is Gillette though. I unwrapped the Arko and pushed the stick holder down the center of the stick. Most of the Arko fit in there, just a thin skin all the way around is what would not fit.
GEM OC MicroMatic GEM PTFE Stainless (4) Simpson Wee Scot Bigelow SC Alum Superior 70 Bay Rum (Boosted) Such an excellent shave yesterday, I decided to repeat it again today. Once again, the MMOC delivers an irritation free 2 pass DFS+.
It's the maiden voyage and I hastened the honing and stropping (needs a little more work). I assume once I hone all the blades the maintenance will be just strop and an occasional touch up on the hone. It's pretty heavy, but shaves nice and the blade gap is adjustable (pretty cool).
I did put a few vintage shave stick and brush containers in there so that's probably one of them. They are just as useful today as they were back in the 1920s and 30s. I've got a mint vintage Palmolive shave stick container from the 1930s that I keep a modern stick of Palmolive shave stick in.
I've been using a brit tube for Arko and and a Gillette tube from an early set for Palmolive. Both are perfect fits, my preference is Arko over the Palm (probably do to a slight missunderstanding durring ordering)
