Saturday - It's the weekend! :happy069 Time for the SEs!! Prep: Hot shower, strop razor 30/60, soak brush, TSD ISZ PSB Hot coffee: Home roasted Tanzania Nyamtimbo Pea-berry, black Soap: Tabac Brush: Vulfix 404, The Grosvenor Strop: VB 2" Black Latigo Str8: Boker SS St. Louis, 3+ passes Post: Cold water rinse, RazoRock, ice water splash, Osage Rub, B&BW Oak cologne 'Stache Wax: Firehouse Wacky Tacky Shave Rating: 5 Blades Had this been a DE shave, it would have only received 4 blades. I just had a sense of accomplishment with the straight today to get three full passes and a touch up that I feel it deserves 5 blades. Darn near BBS, one tiny nick, and that on the final pass (got greedy, I guess). The "cold" tap water was actually lukewarm. It's supposed to be 100+ today. City water just doesn't get cold in the summer.
Saturday. TGN Finest Anchorset Valobra Shave Stick Feather Portable Bull Mastiff KAI (Day 1) Clubman Bay Rum I've been fooling with injectors for the last week or so and wanted a change this morning. Had some KAI blades from a trade and figured it was about time to give one a shot. It is definitely a sharp smooth blade and I got a real good shave from this combo. 4/5.
Friday and Saturday's Shaves: Hot Shower Arko SS/Arko Moist SC Omega Baby-Pro Boar 1952 Gillette Black Tip Super Speed (Steel)/Astra SP (Day3 and 4) Arko Max-Comfort AS Cream Arko Aqua AS Splash (Kept in Freezer) Jaguar Fresh EDT Rating: 5 Blades Fri.: 2 Pass BBS Sat.:2 Pass URCS "Unfriggingreal close shave" (actually smoother than BBS)-Jeff/Crackstar. On Fri.: More of that Classic Super Speed Magic....We're having record degree Temps here...Put my Arko Aqua in the freezer last night, when I splashed today it felt sooo cool, even though the effect only last a few seconds, I loved it...Such a close comfortable shave, hours later playing a concert and sweating, but still no distracting face burn...) On Sat.: Shave 4 just as good as Day1...4 GREAT shaves is all I can ask from a blade...I see where Bob is getting more shaves per blade in his Red Tip...More of that Super Speed Magic...) Jeff; I love your new Shave rating: "Unfriggingreal close shave-I'm actually smoother than BBS." URCS, that should become part of the vocabulary...) It's now part of mine. I plan on plagerising this, with your permission of course.
Saturday, July 24, 2010 Razor: Merkur Long Handled Classic (23C) Blade: Super Iridium Brush: Simpson Colonel X2L Soap: Proraso Classic (Green Pot) A/S: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel, Proraso Splash A smooooooth, BBS shave this morning. The 23C is the first razor I acquired after deciding to return to DE shaving. I wasn't sure that I liked it at first, because I was getting a few nicks and mediocre shaves. However, it seems that it was mostly bad technique involving bad habits I had picked up in my years of using cartridge razors and electrics. I also had not found the ideal blade for me. I now love this razor and use mainly Super Iridiums and Astra Superiors, both of which result in fine shaves. The Proraso soap never lets me down and the Proraso splash left me refreshed and ready for the day.

Saturday: Omega Wooden Handle Super Speed/new Sharp Ingram-SC (from Egypt) :love008 :love008 :freezing :freezing Lubriderm unscented moisturizer Barbon-AS :love008 :love008 :freezing :freezing Chabrawichi 555-Cologne Ingram is a wonderful cream which is popular even in Egypt. This vertsion is nearly 100% identical to the UK version. The only differences as I see them are that the design on the Egyptian tube is a bit different, and it's smaller, and the cream is a light yellowish color. The scent, lather and cooling effect are exactly the same as the UK Ingram. Here are photos of the 2 versions---the Egyptian one is on the left. Here is a lovely, but sad song from Remmy Ongala, who is a Congolese singer, who lives now in Tanzania. It is in Swahili, and about a young man whose mom passed away when he was very young, and had to look after himself. It is called Sauti ya Mnyonge, which is Swahili for the Voice of the Underprivileged. Have a great weekend, friends! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtPXA6wKqIk

The choice worked fabulous today, and paired with some mentholated 4711 type splash from JoAnna, resulted in another great 5 blade shave!

SOTD Saturday July 24, 2010 Razor: 5/8 Wostenholm Pipe Razor Full Hollow Round Point Soap/Mug: Tabac Scuttle: RAB Ceramic Brush: Col Conk Barbershop Badger ASB: Nivea replenishing Aftershave: Pinaud Lilac Vegetal Used the Tabac SS same as usual. Didn't observe much glide or cushion. It was very similar to the Williams SS but didn't dry as fast. IMHO the Tabac doesn't have cushion. I could feel the razor on the skin during the shaving strokes however, the Tabac does the same as the Williams in that it encases the whiskers and stands them up for cutting. The Tabac delivered a very close and comfortable shave and provided exactly what you would expect a lather to do. It's a great soap but no glide or cushion IMHO.
