30 Days of Maggard and MITA!

    image.jpg
Much better shave today from the enigma that is Rapira. Today really was the automatic 2 pass smoothness like it's supposed to be. Two Gillette labels left in this round of tests. MITA is performing like a champ and with the TSD ISZ, it qualified as a Menthol Monday, to boot! Lovely day on the Denver area. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Day 19 with the Mongoose

Shower, Mystic Water Soap Yemaya, Neutrogena Face Scrub
B-3 Mongoose with Triad Helix Hex TI
    Feather ProGuard #3
Paladin Chief Strawberry Amber Two Band 26X51mm
    Knockout Shave Soap - Cotton
Alum Block, Dickinson’s +Menthol, Unrefined Org Shea Butter
    Fine - Platinum

Today’s shave was great from start to finish. Two passes including clean up ended with an extremely close BBS shave. The Paladin Chief had no trouble covering my face with a thick and creamy KO lather. This Paladin IMO has the ideal knot. A soft and thick, two band badger hybrid bulb set at 26X 47mm. It has good flow through, excellent backbone while maintaining a decent splay. This Paladin is another Lather Monster. The ending today was a good splash of Fine Platinum. It is amazing how quickly and smoothly the Mongoose eliminates my whiskers.I hope you all had wonderful shaves today. Stay cool gentlemen!

Shave was alright. I'm pretty much done with using the Merkur 34C. Now that I'm used to the Gillette New, I don't see myself going back to this razor.

    Superb Tabacstag!
Tabac never fails to provide excellent lather and a just about optimal shaving experience. Today was no exception to that rule. I used Tabac cream as a pre shave in order to build überlather with Tabac soap. The Colonel, seemingly made for hard soaps like this one, easily loaded and combined the two legendary classics into thick yogurt like goodness. I barely felt the Fatboy reducing my stubble set on nine for the first pass and seven for subsequent passes. I finished up with Sherlock, which I think is an great complimentary scent to Tabac, and my face feels smooth and comfortable.

    Prep: warm water
    Überlather: Tabac mit Tabac
    Brush: The Colonel
    Razor: 1959 Fatboy 9-7-7
    Blade: Voskhod (1)
    AS: Chiseled Face Sherlock

I have a nice old oval mirror hanging on a chain next to my bed, at around 2:40am this morning the mirror started to swing and clank against the wall. Earthquake! After after 10 seconds it stopped. I fell back asleep.
Great shave! Yesterday I spent a few minutes remapping my beard growth on my neck, thought I had it figured out. Well I didn't. Now I do, no irritation on my neck this morning.
A better tomorrow. Takes your best today!

Mastro Livi "Rasoio Italiano" Stainless Damascus Steel: Italian Shave

This Mastro Livi "Rasoio Italiano" is just another proof of the superior craftsmanship achieved by this revered and magnificent Italian artisan and artist. The blade is made of Mastro Livi artisan stainless Damascus steel, that is a Damascus made by using martensitic stainless steels only and no austenitic stainless steel. As such, this Mastro Livi artisan Stainless Damascus steel is suitable for making edges. Super cutting edges, I would add. I know very well how Mastro Livi carbon Damascus steels performs and trying this stainless Damascus steel was a sort of exciting adventure. It certainly is more aggressive than Mastro Livi carbon Damascus and even more aggressive than the stainless steel Mastro Livi uses for the making of his Grifetto. Although it is quite aggressive, it is however smooth, probably a little less aggressive than Damasteel, the industrial stainless Damascus steel Mastro Livi uses for some of his razors. And I must add, I like Mastro Livi artisan Stainless Damascus Steel better. This was a genuine Italian shave: not only an "Italian Razor" made by the finest and best Italian razor maker, but also one of the best Italian shaving soaps around: Boellis Panama 1924. Then a Mastro Livi badger brush, my pre-shave oil and my Thyrrenus after shave. I truly enjoyed my super luxurious Italian shave: what a razor!
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Boellis Panama 1924
    • Brush: Mastro Livi Silvertip Badger, Makassar Ebony Handle, 26mm Knot
    • Bowl: Old Barber Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Loom Strop and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi "Rasoio Italiano" Stainless Damascus, 8/8 Full Hollow, Spanish Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Umbrian Extravirgin Olive Oil
    • After Shave: RazorGuy Thyrrenus

when you describe the aggressiveness, do you actually mean it's ability to take and hold a keen edge.I.e. sharpness.
I can't quite wrap my head around a straight razor being more or less aggressive than another.
is not aggressiveness about blade angle and exposure?

Pre: Shower, hot towel, rose pre-shave oil
    Razor: Fenrdrihan 3 piece DE
    Blade Merkur
    Soap: Sterling Naked and Smooth
    Brush: Omega Boar
Post-shave: Rose WH, shea butter/coconut oil blend

Not the best shave today...I think my lather was a bit dry...should have added more water on my face. Fortunately my prep softened up the beard so I salvaged a reasonably good shave. 7/10:duel: The Merkur blades still seem to be doing well. I know the reviews of this blade are not the best...but I find it hard to believe a Merkur blade made with (I believe) Solingen steel (someone correct me if I am wrong) could be rated substandard. I know...YMMV. :think002: Will finish up the week with Merkur and then do a week of shaves with Derby.
