Stirling Coniferous soap, Colorado Razor Designs two band badger, Friodur Inox 7/8, half hollow straight razor, Chatillon Lux Fourth and Pine aftershave.

Two and a half passes, decent shave, one nick.

This soap/aftershave combo is growing on me.

Excellent break down on the PAA/CK scents Steve! Douglas does make some nice scent combinations, favorites being Sangre De Draco, Agartha, and Olive Branch. Plus the A/S scents last a very long time, hitting twards EDT strength.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a nice scent. Jeeves has great performance, just used Velvet Jacket the other day.

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Stirling Bay Rum
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
Post - Alum - luckily no styptic

Well there was a great shave nearly ruined by stupidity. Let's get the soap/brush out of the way. The Stirling Bay Rum, which is a traditional Bay Rum scent, was very nice and the Jayaruh #46 made it quick and easy to get the lather out of a nice brushload and face lather. I got a new toy in today as well, the Professional Shaving Mug from Marvy. Definitely a classic and unbreakable rubber - a bonus! The razor is the Slim and Ladas - nothing to worry about.

So - first pass was really nice. Great Bay Rum scent in the room, cushy and slick lather, excellent WTG pass. Second pass equally good. XTG, again the perfect lather and great scent. Near-BBS so let's touch up. How do we do that, you ask? Why with my usual "diagonal X" pattern on my neck of course. And, just because, how about a G-Slide finish? Sounds good right? Well it was. Until on the last G-Slide on my left side I decided to complete the slide while looking down. As in dropping my head and looking at the sink to start clean up even as the razor was still moving in my hand. Oh, and I turned my head a bit toward the razor too. Yeah, I felt what I thought might be a slice. The gap on a wide open Slim is enough to expose that blade nicely, especially when you turn your neck right into it.

At first I thought it was just a wild and scary sensation. Rinsed, toweled off, then saw the string of bloody spots across my Adam's apple, starting from about halfway up my left side on my neck and stretching past my Adam's apple. Cold water, heavy alum which, yes, did reinforce how stupid that was, and the blood didn't reappear. I think I got lucky. As I told my wife - I wouldn't want to try that "duck and look" maneuver with a pain stick on the downward run.

I'd call it a BBS finish but I think I have to give points back for that idiotic mistake. Still, a very nice shave.

Thank you. I hope I did not offend anyone with my opinions but everyone’s tastes vary. I really want to try Boomtown but will wait a bit and enjoy my new Glacials for awhile. I have to space new acquisitions out a bit to enjoy them.

Razor - Gillette Superspeed (circa 1947-1952) (Re-plated in Nickel Finish byRazor Emporium)
    Blade - BiC Chrome-Platinum *8th shave
Shave Brush - Declaration Grooming "Fatty" in custom green color
Shave Cream - Proctor & Gamble Old Spice "Fresh Lime"
Suribachi Lather Bowl handmade by Of the Dirt Pottery
Deodorant - Shulton Old Spice Lime Talc (circa 1967-1970)
Aftershave - Shulton Old Spice Lime (circa 1966-1976)
Fragrance - Shulton Old Spice Lime Cologne Splash (circa 1966-1976)

I'm craving a bit of Old Spice Lime for my home-bound telecommute from tomorrow.

***EDIT - 3-pass, BBS shave. The Shave Cream from this India-made product smelled great. The lime seemed like an almost sour-lime-candy with Old Spice in the backround. Not quite Shulton, but it's respectably in the neighborhood and certain pairs with the classic Shulton OS Lime scent. The shave cream got the job done with just enough slickness and protection, but IMO, seemed a bit 'thin' compared to my top-performing soaps/creams. I am considering trying less water next time in the pursuit of richer, creamier lather. But, like I said, it worked well and did its job. The bowl allowed for the lather to explode, so I'm thinking that less water is needed because of the easily generated friction from the bowl lather action.

The near-bullet-proof vintage Gillette Superspeed never fails with the BiC Chrome-Platinum blade. I will never use another blade brand in this razor. Just perfection on virtually every shave. And this one was no exception. I also shaved the back of my neck.

The aftershave was brisk with the sting that reminds me I'm alive and it just 'screamed' the 1970's scent that brings back childhood memories and feelings.

The talc went over my unscented deodorant stick from Herbal Cowboy (not pictured) and I also used the talc on my cheeks, neck and back of my neck like an old fashioned barber would and I'll tell you it really delivered that barbershop scent to this Old Spice Lime and on top of that gave a marble-like smoothness to my skin. I used no balm, so my skin today is dry compared to usual. For preferred skin health, moisturizer with special antioxidants is normally recommended, but today I'm going with the Old-School talc and dry skin finish. IMO, it feels 'fresher', cleaner than a moisturizing balm. The ONLY way to have a vintage, old-school barbershop shave experience is with the talc powder. It's the signature 'finish'. It all comes down to that scent at the end and the talc adds something special. IMO, this is what classic wet-shaving is all about and young people need to have at least an occasional shave like this. So many men today have no idea how good this is.

I did not use the rare bath soap this time around because it's so hard to find. I save it for either special occasions or very rare random use.
