based on your prior reviews Jeff - I ordered a Black Cherry and it arrived today! I assume the glacials all have same menthol? but just smelling the tub my eyes watered!! cant wait to use it and thanks for the review.

Congrats on the new acquisition amigo..... The GEM & Sabre are an excellent combo.

 

Sounds good . I'm looking into some PAA/Crown King products as part of my preparation for NB18.

 

A good shave this morning. A Vintage and Modern GEM razor shave off. The Wilkinson Pall Mall vs The Blackland Sabre. And they did not disappoint in the least. A 2 pass shave on each side with touch ups from both razors. The Sabre, buttery smooth. The Pall Mall, more aggressive and feel. Result was a BBS in the end. Alum proved just a slight hint of irritation on the Pall Mall side, but I had the blade set on an aggressive setting. Will tone it down on the next shave to get it closer to the Sabre in smoothness. Yes Jamie, they're all equally-mentholated. The Black Cherry's scent to me is beautiful. I never thought I'd love it so much but was I ever surprised. The lather explodes right off a brush and buries your face. That freezing sensation is INTENSE, so be prepared!

 

Paul, your brush arrived? What do you think about it?

 

Another go with the Nr.15. Been a while since I used Chiseled Face Santa Paula Citrus and it's perfect in this gazillion degree heat!

July 24 - Break Time

Waiting on blades for the AC to arrive so I decided to take a break and go old school with razor and soap. The New LC is a fine vintage razor, and in the Delta Echo restoration it's just stunning. How about some Proraso for a change? Sandalwood, thank you very much. And, the Omega 10066 boar brush just to take it all "old school". Throw in a Ladas blade for that Russiany goodness and it is an epic shave.

Proraso was my first soap and gets very little love from me anymore. That is, of course, partly due to the enablers around here. But, it's one of those classic soaps that does one thing. It works. Slick, protective, and with the above average aggression of the New and the Ladas the shave was smooth and a BBS in two passes and touch ups. Very enjoyable for a break. I didn't even mind waiting for the brush to soak, and the feel of the boar was very nice. Just a hint of scritch but still very soft as it is very well broken in from heavy use over the past couple of years.

That, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and all the ships at sea - is a classic shave. And the alum - silent.

 

Traveling just with the R41 for a few days, now in Siem Reap. The only blades I've seen in Cambodia are the BIC Chrome Platinum, two tucks for a dollar. First head shave with the BIC was marvelous, better than first shaves with the Personnas and Astra in this razor for sure.
