Have a wonderful trip. I did two weeks in Vietnam last November and loved it.

    Trials and Tribulations

    June 15

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Moving back to the Super-Max blade trial and it's back to the Fatboy and the Super Platinum blade. What, one may ask, is the difference between a regular Platinum blade and the Super Platinum? (Or in the case of Astras the "superior platinum") ((or some blades who talk about double platinum)) Well, one is clearly SUPER!!!! Honestly, research into this will leave you with the distinct feeling that it's all a marketing ploy, or at least partly that. Typically the difference is an extra coating of platinum on the "super" blade, but that isn't a guarantee. If there's one thing I've learned about blade manufacturers - they are hard to get information from, especially when asking about manufacturing specs and distribution strategies. I can say this for sure. The Super-Max Platinum gave me three great shaves. Not the sharpest blade, definitely on the sharper side of the coin but not overly so, and smooth. So that's the comparison for the Super Platinum.

JR46 and Arko for that classic lather and off we go to two passes and a little touch up. Smooth as silk on the 3 setting with no issues on either pass. Reduction seemed a bit above average for the mild setting and the finish is a near-BBS. Excellent shave from the blade and alum was just there to say I used it. No burns or stings. Pretty much the same as the Platinum on all counts, though I think the smoothness of this blade may have been just a touch better. I expect the 6 shave to hit gold and the 9 shave should be excellent as well, with a potential for some added irritation if the blade is as sharp as this shave indicates it may be. Should be another great run of shaves from the Super Platinum as I've been getting from all of the Super-Max line.

My Sharp Stars are sitting in the post office waiting for me to release them from custody. This batch shipped through St. Petersburg, which is unusual. The seller is from Ufa, which is about an hour and a half west of Moscow, and over two hours southwest of St. Pete's. Not sure how the package went that direction but it's here now. Probably Monday before I'll have time to go sign for it.

Friday is upon us! Hope you have some plans for a fun weekend.

Excellent shave in every way. Super smooth and easy while being very close and efficient. Black Bot pairs very well with 13 as they both have a musky note. The aftershave leaves my skin soft and well cared for.
    Soap: Dr. Jon's 13
    Brush: Brothers Bristles Bronze Shadow
    Razor: Rockwell 6s R6

This shave was good, but uneventful as far as I'm concerned. The Omega 49 brush worked up a good bowl lather for me with the Musgo cream and my Super Speed cleaned me up great as it does every day. The Nip Man balm went on with a glorious soothing and moisturizing sensation, together with a fairly cooling feeling. The Musgo aftershave smells nice, but it stings like hell for a second and then it feels great - the scent to my nose is nothing at all like the cream. Back to my Stirling beauties for tomorrow so I can really enjoy a shave the way I like it! ;)

A great weekend to one an all! :)

I had intended on shaving with my new OneBlade Core, which unceremoniously arrived yesterday, but it's being returned today.
What a piece of...I'll say it: junk.

    Have a great day!

    Razor - Edwin Jagger "Kelvin"
    Blade - Voskhod "Teflon Coated"
Shave Brush - Da Vinci Uomo "Synique"
Soap - Ginger's Garden "Aventus" Vegan Formula
    Aftershave - Fine "Platinum"
Deodorant - Lucky Girl Boutique's Pure Body Delights "Monarch"
    Fragrance - Creed "Aventus"

The Da Vinci Uomo Synique brush has a "scratchier" feel to my skin when lathering. Definitely not as soft as my other synthetics, but I think they were going for a stronger exfoliation effect to set themselves apart from the other synthetics. I own all-synthetics, so this one and my faux-boar synthetic are definitely different than the standard 'super soft' bristles. I like the new addition of the Synique. I finally have some brushes that are different enough to evaluate against different soaps. My Gentleman's Hangar brush is super soft but has the strongest backbone of any of my brushes and that makes it also somewhat unique in my collection. The Gentleman's Hangar I find eats up a disproportionate amount of soap from Mama Bear's glycerin-based puck compared to the Everyman Jack model. I don't like the idea of mixing up brushes into other soaps and have organized a different brush for each soap....except for my generic VigShaving chinese crash test shave brush, which I'm allowed to beat the crap out of and abuse. Surprisingly, that generic, cheap brush has stood up to it and kept on rolling.
