Thanks, Brian! It's one of my favorite 'go-to' razors that also happened to be a real joy to restore... :)

Colder than Siberia in the middle of January and so soothing, moisturizing, and comfortable. I think my Astra blade will last for one more three pass shave - by the way, this Frostbite aftershave which Brian makes is a must-have for a menthol monkey because it's really frigid and does it ever smell nice. Its moisturizing aspect is awesome. The Glacial Unscented balm has a ton of freeze to it and Rod described it perfectly - it'll match perfectly with any scent whether it's strong or mild! ;) :D

A Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there from one proud Dad like myself, and to my own Dad who I'm going to visit now! :)

Nice handle! Did you make it or purchase? The threads on the Fatip are an odd size. None of my other handles are an easy swap and the Piccolo is a bit short. I did work a frankenrazor compromise by using the top cap & handle from a Muhle R89 Grande.

Fantastic shave with the 1924. This B&M soap is amazing stuff. Definitely lives up to it's reputation. Great Bay rum scent. Followed it with some iced Clubman VIBR.
    I hope everyone is well.

For today's shave I brought out a razor I have had for a couple of years and have not used. Folks I bring you the SEGAL Razor.
Some of you know about the SEGAL razor, but for those that do not, the SEGAL Razor Co. was a division of the Segal Lock Co. started by Samuel Segal. The razor looks like a normal 3 piece razor, but when you unscrew the bottom nut, the top lifts and turns to accept a proprietary blade. It has a very thin gold wash and dates from about 1930 or later.
Here is a little bit of history from the Segal Lock Co. website provided by mr. Douglas Smythe from HTGAM. Click on the advertisement to take you to the site.
Blades of course are not manufactured any longer and are very hard to find. I did try to use Douglas Smythe's template to cut a modern blade to fit the razor, but I did not cut it well enough to fit straight, so it sat in a box in my den unused for a very loong time. I was in conversation with a very well regarded member here, Alan, AKA @Morman Bridge for some Durham Duplex blades and he mentioned he had a tuck or two of SEGAL blades, and he was willing to share some of those with me as well. When I got the blades, I used a blade in the DD and reported on it, but I was not wanting to break the pristine plastic seal on the SEGAL blades. Well today I unwrapped the tuck of blades and put a NOS blade that is possibly close to 90 years old into a razor and shaved with it. The first stroke was quite loud and felt a lot like the modern carbon steel single edge Gem blades, and I thought the shave would end up being very irritating. It did not take long before I found the groove with the razor and by riding the cap I could get a very smooth cut. The blade did not feel as sharp as any of the modern Stainless blades, but I can tell you that I am BBS, and Dolphins would be jealous. The vintage Rubberset with the original Imported Badger Hair is the softest of all of my Badger Brushes. It also has the least almount of backbone of any of my brushes as well. The brush loaded the XXX croap very easily and prepared my face well for the use of the SEGAL. I finished off with Aubrey Northwoods shave balm and AS. Thank you again Alan for your generosity, without you, I would have not gotten the fine shave today that I get to share with the various shaving communities. Have a blessed day Gentlemen.

I've several models of Segal razors. I believe I have an example of each made. When I was into DE razor, I used some NOS Segal blades provided by Alan @Morman Bridge , and couldn't get a comfortable shave. It's a hit or miss with vintage Carbon blades. I did modify several modern Stainless Steel blades, and had many fantastic shaves. The Segal Razor is a great shaving razor. The only issues are that it has poor plating, and the Zamak that it's made of is very fragile. The teeth and the pivot point on the cap will break, at the least amount of odd pressure. Don't ask how I know.
Anyone into razors should have one or two of these. They are usually very inexpensive, due to the unavailability of the proprietary blades.

The Glacial version has triple the amount of menthol in it. It's a killer-cold soap like all the other Glacials. It's not for anyone who's sensitive to menthol because it'll shake them up.

First time using any type of Treet blade, and I gotta say, it shaved great in the Flair Tip. It hardly seemed like that a blade was in the razor. Two passes and a bit of touch up for an excellent and very smooth BBS shave.

I think you're seeing double and might need your eyes checked. ;)

It could be a case of you liking one or more of the shave kit items. Simply cured by buying said item.
