Comments: I just got back the Wolfman heads today so I thought I would try one out. They were sent back for some modification! I used the DC (dual comb) one but only used the OC (open comb) side and tomorrow I will use only the SB (standard bar) side. As expected the shave was very good. The razor is very smooth and efficient but I can't say I noticed much difference in this head vs the stock head. I am suppose to have more blade gap! I guess the blade could have something to do with it so I will test a different one tomorrow! This is the my first time with this soap and I like it. It is good soap, good slick lather and protection. Shave was very good today!

Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV!

    Thx

World Tournament of Blades - Russia vs. the World!!
    June 26, 2015
Prep - Hot shower and towel
    Brush - Vie Long 12705
    Soap - Tabac
    Razor - '59 Superspeed
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Post - Alum, Nivea Balm

We're down to the Final Four! And....we stay on the World side to start the finals. The Bic Chrome Platinum goes up against the Personna Lab Blue and today is its day. This is the blade that has defeated both of the Super-Max entries from India to make it to the semi-finals and it has been fairly impressive. So, onto the field it comes.

The gear for this matchup is the '59 Superspeed with the Vie-Long horse and Tabac. I used some extra water and got the Tabac lathered up well with a slick base and went to work. The first pass was smooth and the blade is sharp. This is the third round for the blade and it is still very comfortable. Second XTG pass was also a great pass and left only the neck to clean up. Still smooth, no issues. Neck was again an XTG with a G-slide to finish. Got the DFS and felt good. Now, to the alum and grading.

Sharpness - Still a 1. Seems to have lost nothing in that regard. Smoothness - Again a 1. No drag, pulling, nothing but glide. Irritation - so here comes the alum at the end and there's a minor burn that quickly fades. That's a 1 in my book. That quick flash and gone is normal for me. Finish? DFS for the 2. That's a 5. Great result!

    Total - 5

Tomorrow the Lab Blue gets its day in the sun. Which will move to the finals? And which Russian will it face, the Voskhod or Ladas? Will Penelope be rescued from the train tracks? Oh wait....different suspense. Have a great weekend everyone!

Prep: Shower, hot facecloth followed by homemade rose pre-shave oil
    Soap: B&M Unscented
    Razor: Gillette Adjustable "Slim"
    Blade: Astra
    Brush: Parker Badger
Aftershave: Hot facecloth followed by Rose Witch Hazel
    Aftershave balm: Shea butter
    Mustache Wax: Badger

Saturday is coming up roses! Today I tried my new Gillette Adjustable Slim. A fine piece of engineering. I marvel at the design and craftsmanship of some of these older razors. Set on #3 it produced a smooth shave in 2 passes. I also used Thayers Rose Witch Hazel for the first time...this paired nicely with the rose pre-shave oil....of course! A great way to start a Saturday morning! Nice clean shave. 10/10 Time to take my puppy for a walk. :chores016:

    today's shave
hot water wash with dove+ care and a washcloth
    Ralph Lauren safari/ Rooney knot
    soap commander renewal
    Gillette prewar fat handle tech
    persona lab(4)
soap commander renewal balm/ touch of Avon wild country
today's shave was ok. three passes and touch up left me dfs, but not near bbs. which is ok, in heading into the sun today for treasure hunting. comfy is my goal, the prewar didn't disappoint. the safari has got to be the softest knot in the herd, to bad Rooney is closing up. finished with sc renewal balm, but added a splash of wild country. what's a safari without some wild country?
hope y'all did as well, or better.

    Van Yulay Sample Saturday
I was lucky enough to take advantage of a free sample offer last week and it arrived yesterday. I chose the Achilles scent, described as bourbon tobacco, and it delivers. I get bourbon in the forefront with other elements more subtle. Granted, my nose is not the best at picking out scent, but I enjoyed this one - sweet and a bit boozy without going overboard. The Colonel made the soap explode into thick, rich lather that I built easily on my face. The New effortlessly removed my stubble with no drama in three passes. I chose Sherlock to wrap it up and the scent is a nice compliment with its sweet opening and leathery dry down. Post shave, my face feels excellent and smooth.
We are truly living in a golden age of artisan soap makers. There are so many excellent soaps to try, and Van Yulay ought to be on your list. My first impression is an excellent one.
    Prep: Mickey Lee Lime
    Soap: Van Yulay Achilles
    Brush: The Colonel
    Razor: Gillette New LC
    Blade: Voskhod (2)
    AS: Chiseled Face Sherlock

Razor – Gillette Old Type with Jürgen Hempel Ti
    Blade – Voskhod (1)
Brush – Rubberset 400 with Omega Boar
    Lather – Soap Commander Renewal
    Post - Witch Hazel & Myrsol F/Extra

This was my first time using both the Gillette Old Type and the first time using a Voskhod blade. After reading many comments about how aggressive the Old Type was in comparison to the New OC, I was expecting something other than the shave I had. I found this set up to be milder than the New LC. Of course this could have been the blade. I ended up with a near BBS shave but it required 3 passes with a lot of touch ups. I look forward to spending the remainder of the July Focus working with the Old Type.

Wonderful shave. The 1305 whipped up the Latha into a beautiful fluffy pile of Latha. SC101 matched with a Ladas buzzed down my whiskers. The Latha aftershave is okay! Pretty soothing.
A better tomorrow. Takes your best today!

First thoughts regarding the ShaveCraft Tech and the SV Fying Mango over at Bullgoose Shaving, both are winners in my book. First thing that came to mind with the Tech was that it reminded me of my Weber but not as smooth if that makes sense. Put it right at or just below iKon Standard in aggressiveness. Fantastic two pass shave with no touch up required. The Flying Mango at first sniff was SV Manna on steroids. Stuff smells fantastic and to me a complex scent. Citrusy with floral notes which I can pickup lavender for sure but also a woodsy smell comes through. As with all Saponificio Varesino the pre/post shave feel is top notch and with the added mango it supposedly provides a better post shave feel but to me it always has provided a super smooth feel on my face. These two are definite keepers in my den. Too bad the Flying Mango is a limited Edition run as I wouldn't mind having this one in my den long term.

a refreshing 3 pass shave today with good results

It is all your fault and I am blaming you personally. You messed me up when you sent me the sample of MDC. ;) (by the way, thanks again) I haven't found any other soap that works as well. There are a few (LPL, Provence Sante, L'Occitane cade, etc.) that come close to MDC, but none that can equal it. I have tried about 90% of the soaps out there and this is, IMHO, the best.
