I still love the Jovan Musk Cologne and use it regularly. (I got hooked on it in the late 60's if I remember.) ;)

I think Jovan Musk was the first cologne I wore when I moved here to Montreal. (Or was it English Leather?)

English Leather is another old fragrance that is still around but has lost a lot of it following. I like that too! :)

    Father's day shave

    Prep: wash with Cerave cleanser
    Soap: Williams
Brush: Burma Shave restored with TGN synthetic knot
    Razor: Gillette 1961 Fat Boy
    Blade: Wilkinson Sword
After: cold rinse, CeraVe lotion, Mennen Skin Bracer

This Father's Day shave was my attempt to recreate my own father's shave kit from the early 1970's when I was a teenager. I remember the Gillette fat boy razor, Wilkinson Sword blade, the distinctive tan and red Burma Shave brush, the Old Spice mug with either Williams or Colgate soap, and his signature scent, Mennen Skin Bracer. It is amazing how we remember scents -- when I opened the bottle of Skin Bracer, I immediately remembered how my dad smelled!

The shave wasn't great, unfortunately. I worked hard to get a decent lather from the Williams soap. It would seem OK, but then the foam would start to break down on my face. The modern artisan soaps that I normally use are so much better! I have heard that the current version of Williams just isn't as good as it used to be.

Here is a photo of my dad from 1966, when I was 10 years old. He was a Marine in Viet Nam, and this photo showed him writing a letter home. In the family photo I am on the left.
