Very good 3 pass shave this morning. Not as smooth as yesterday's shave with the 1912. This razor just seems a bit more aggressive or harsh. Overall pretty pleased with the shave.

Best thing I ever did was shave my moustache off (after having it most my adult life). Other than looking at a stranger in the mirror for awhile:happy102:

Ive got the Bay Rum and the Hungarian Lavender and like them both. The Lavender is quite pungent and heavily scented which I like a lot.

Thanks! I was attempting to create an 'old-fashioned' vibe to the look and color palette….

Believe me, it wasn't so easy for me to choose something without menthol. Don't worry - tomorrow it's back to the freezy fun! ;)

    today's shave
hot water wash with dove+ care
    Kent silvertex infinity
    Proraso white
    Merkur 34chd
    Ladas(3)
    witch hazel and tea treeoil
    ICED Florida water
today's shave was ok. after a day at Clearwater beach, I'm a little sun weary(burned). so today, mild with a side of cool was in order. the silvertex made nice lather of the white. the heavy duty removed the stubble in its normal mild but efficient manner. I added an after wash of witch hazel and tea tree oil. finished with iced Florida water.
no treasure found after 7 hours of beach hunting. just coins and sun glasses.
hope y'all did as well(shaving), but do better finding treasure.

SoTD for Thursday, April 2, or, have I mentioned how much I like Probak?

    Pre- BBC oil
Soap- Crabtree and Evelyn, Moroccan myrrh
    Brush- Simpson colonel x2l
    Razor- Probak
    Blade- Gillette Spoiler
    Rinse- Osage
    Aftershave- Command
    Balm- Kiehl's
    Cologne- Quorum

I have decided to give some of my favorite DEs some exercise this week. So Probak, being in my top of the top, is up early. I love these razors. They are very similar to a Gillette in terms of geometry, but I get a overall better shave out of the Probak. This day I paired it up with a vintage Spoiler blade. Fantastic combo, fantastic 2.5 pass BBS.
I am also trying to reassess my Simpson brush. I will admit that when I first got this guy,I was disappointed. For the price, it honestly did not seem that special. But after a few uses, I am growing to really love this brush. I initially thought it was small, but now I like how it feels, and it's responsive action. It is like a sports car. Not a modern supercar, but a little vintage sports car. Like a Carman Ghia. Or maybe I am over thinking the whole thing.
And finally, the soap. I do not like it. The first couple times I used this stuff, I got a very weak and weedy lather. But I usually start with less water and add as needed. So I thought maybe more fluid would be the key. This time I soaked the puck for about five minutes, and used more water. I started in, and instantly got an explosion of lather. It literally welled up out of the mug. I thought I was in business. So I proceeded with my usual routine. When I switched over to my lather bowl, I realized that I did not have lather. I had a mountain of suds. No joke. It was a mountain of loose, Mr Bubble style suds. I tried to mix it up, tamp it down, anything to make it usable. It eventually looked almost like lather. But it didn't act like it. Sometimes it would go on correctly, and then when I looked back in the mirror, I would see that it had all slid off. Eventually I got a face full and shaved. I was only going for simple hair removal at this point, so I ended up with a serviceable DFS. I have to believe that I am just not finding the equation to unlock this soap. I would think that a terrible soap would not remain in production as a staple of the industry... but, weirder things have happened since the rise of the bean counter as prime mover in business.

image.jpg Razor: Gillette Goodwill #162 1934 (4 corner positioning posts)
Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
Mug: Old Spice (early glass Mug 06) 1961 - 1964 First Mug with a taper last without a lip on top
    Cream: Cella
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, Old Spice original Shulton 1956 glass AS Stopper #3, Old Spice original Shulton 1947 glass Talcum powder (ship Mt. Vernon sailing to right)

This Goodwill razor is built on "New" parts. My other one is built on "Old" parts. I really like the way these razors look, and they shave me a lot like my Gillette New LC. I whipped up the Cella in my mug, after having it sit in hot water on a wash cloth in the sink. Gives a nice warm lather. First pass WTG going slow and very nice glide with no pressure with this light razor. Very nice! Second pass XTG on my face and then ATG on my neck. The Cella was nice and slick with that great scent, and helped get a great shave. A little touchup and buffing on my neck, and done. Great razor! Very smooth, but I think I may have overdone my neck on one side. The WH felt good and then some JB balm. After cleanup some Vintage Old Spice, and then some Old Spice Talc on my neck which is a little tinder from chasing the baby today. I should know better, but I can't tell you why.......

I'm really liking Cologne Russe, it's going to be my go to scent. Rhapsody produced optimal lather again today. I think I'm hooked on B&M soaps - they just work great and the scents are complex and fun to decode.

If what happened to you with my Slim I would experiment with the setting by changing the setting. I would lower it 1 notch use it that way for a couple of days, and see what happens. I would also recommend that you either use Witch Hazel or an Alum Block. and or a Sensitive Skin Balm of some brand, Nivea, Dove, Jack Black, Afta, or even Avon(they have scented and unscented).
Or you could apply a 30 day Rule. Which I did and am doing with my Above the Tie Razor Set.

I do not know what Shaving Cream or Soap you were using, but YMMV as every one else around here says. I use basically only shaving soap. I do have a can or two of Shaving Cream. Of the Shaving Cream that I have I find that if I use one brand (Edge Shaving Gel) or (Gillette Pro Glide) I really do not get any Razor Burn or any nicks.
