    Like every day I look at the front page of the newspapers to read the obituaries, but… nothing!

    And if today they haven’t even published a blurb for Napoleon, I’m afraid that obituary would be invisible.
    But we’d notice the event from the bangs of champagne corks and also from the absence of new, improvised, smoky, unthinking dispositions.

    So I am content to try to turn a habit into a pleasure.
    Today I succeeded.

    The Tabac Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Burma Shave Boar Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Schick L1 Injector with a Personna blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Tabac ASB. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    I’m really enjoying these Derby blades a lot these days because they’re very sharp and smooth. The Hallows is the only soap from Barrister & Mann that I’ve used and I think it’s awesome - the scent is lovely, it gives rich, slick, fantastic lather which is so protective, and a great postshave feeling. The Natural Products balm I believe is from France, and it moisturizes the skin very well, it has a nice mild scent, and it’s slightly cooling. The Hega aftershave from Sweden is alcohol based but it has no sting whatsoever and its scent is very neutral so it won’t disrupt any fragrance. Three passes really did the job for me - another brilliant BBS shave!

    It's no secret I love Haitian vetiver. Catie's 322 is still my favorite, but The Dark Side is a close second. Instead of the black currant in 322, Chris uses coffee. He also includes ISO E super which comes across as dry and atrophied cedar wood with that distinct resinous nature. The Dark Side is actually darker and bolder than 322. Whereas 322 could never be mistaken as a bright fragrance, it does have that faintly sweet merlot wine vibe from the currant which gives it its soul. It's that subtle richness that keeps me interested in it throughout the wear-time. The Dark Side is quite simply devoid of any soul, but rather a descending chasm of bleak darkness.
