The Col. Conk Amber Shave Stick lathered well with the Jayaruh #199 Synthetic Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Merkur Progress Adjustable Razor and the Nacet Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with PSC Caffeinated After Shave Balm. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

My God, if this setup doesn’t freeze your face off then nothing will - my dear brother Fernando’s Frosted Lavender soap and aftershave are two menthol atom bombs with the most gorgeous lavender scent I ever had. The soap’s tallow formula is so similar to Stirling - you can’t imagine how awesome the lather is, not to mention the slickness it gives, the menthol sensation is insane but the postshave care is fabulous. The Thayer’s Lavender witch hazel hardly has any scent but it’s very soothing, the Prep is in a class by itself, and the Frosted Lavender aftershave is heavenly - the menthol kick it gives can knock out a polar bear but it’s so gentle on sensitive skin - never any burning or stinging because it’s also witch hazel based. The Junjie is a dirt cheap DE that I bought some years ago at a dollar store here in town but it’s VERY efficient in spite of how mild it is. What an outstanding, enjoyable three pass BBS shave I had!

What I Learned

• Pairing a mild blade with an aggressive razor is even better than pairing an aggressive blade with a mild razor. A close shave with little cleanup.
• Arko is a better soap than Proraso, although not as easy to lather. The resulting lather is thicker and slicker. But Proraso is still pretty good, nevertheless.
• Jifuli is definitely a two-use blade. This third time it struggled with my morning stubble. Trying to get a fourth shave out of it would likely not be a pleasant experience.

Razor : Yaqi 2nd Generation Mellon 316 SSP razor head with a Yaqi Chippendale 316 SSP handle. Mfg 2023>, mid range. Great razor to work my beard. Excellent machining + finish QC with shielded blade tabs. Had a close comfortable shave this morning.
Blade : Personna red(1) sharp and smooth with excellent longevity.
Soap : Razorock Lavender, nice masculine scented soap with some of the best lather qualities in a soap.
Brush : Yaqi " Chiantis" 24 mm synthetic knot. Excellent lather generator, Luxury heavenly cloud like soft tips, gentle splay scrubber + excellent lather generator.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Ach Brito Lavanda with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : or CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers= Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Yaqi Mellon 316 SSP razor with a Personna red blade. When mastered this razor is excellent for my shaving needs.

Here my Wednesday Shave (01.05.2024)


Pre: Grooming Dept. Unscented // Razor: Mühle R41 // Blade: Gillette yellow // Soap: PAA Harvest Moon // Brush: Shavemac // Aftershave: Alum - Thayers WH - PAA Harvest Moon

A different shave today…did not use the R41 for ages (and reasons)

I was given the info that the R41 should be very smooth and gentle with a yellow Gillette. That seemed interesting so i thought: Why not give it a try again? So i did…

The shave itself was …okay…Smoother in comparison to other blades i have used before. Less „scratchy“. No doubt that the R41 might be the most thoroughly DE-Razor on this planet.

2 passes and i was done. My face was extremely red even i took care to apply absolutely no pressure whatsoever. Applied the Alum which had bites to it…maaaan, did that bite. Stinging from hell. I dońt know if it was just my skin which does not liked the razor at this time but…phew…The Witch Hazel took care of it and soothed the skin. Magical stuff. The wonderful Aftershave with it´s comforting scent made my skin felt quite good but it punched me with it´s high amount of Alcohol.

So…i will give the razor a spin now and then but the relationship between the R41 and me will never be a „Love-Story“.

I would call it a 7 out of 10

A new EdT to the den this week. I remember seeing a posting quite some time ago that said that Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica was a dupe of Azzaro Pour Homme. That surprised me as I thought it was an SVoriginal. Anyway, fast forward to me finding this Azzaro at Winners (Canadian TJ Maxx). I picked it up. I can see why the Felce isconsidered a dupe. It seems not quite as‘fresh’ as the SV, but very nice regardless.
