Hi, Mike. I found the WR1-SB to be a bit aggressive for me, so I had James reduce the blade gap by .006mm and it has improved the shave, quite a bit, but I think it could still use a bit less of a blade gap. I tend to prefer more milder DEs. I still enjoy the shaves with the modified version, but I still have to be a bit careful. They are beautifully machined DEs and I hope you enjoy yours.
Day 2 of using the Lord blade. I got a little overconfident and took out a divot. Hot washcloth Nivea shave gel Vie-Long horsehair brush WeiShi long handled heavyweight Lord blade Styptic pencil Toilet paper Styptic pencil Cold water Witch hazel Styptic pencil again Someone at work asked "What happened to your face?" I said "Sorry, first rule, I can't talk about it."
Edwin Jagger DE89L razor with Astra S.P. blade (3), Omega 20102 Pro Boar bristle brush, Lather-up with CO Bigelow cream, finish with water, Witch Hazel and Clubman Special Reserve for a DFS! Wow, what a shave! I didn't expect to get this near BBS today. I don't usually (or try not to) shave for BBS but the Edwin Jagger makes it smooth and easy and I simply cannot resist. Aces!
Brush Focus: Day 5 Brush: J. Peterman 1903 Silvertip Badger, Dark Brown Mock- Tortoise Shell Handle Gillette Super Speed, 1947 Birth Razor. Gillette Platinum Blade Bowl: KO Shave Soap: Jack's Soap AS: The Shave Den Coconut Old Spice Coffee Mug. This brush looks good is a nice size, however it doesn't perform well. Doesn't hold water like other Silvertips I have and has virtually no backbone at all. Paint only. At $89.00 dollars a pop you could spend your money more wisely. This one goes to the back of the bus. It does look good though. Day 6 for the for the Gillette Platinum Blade and it is holding up well. The Shave Den AS, coconut is one of my favorites.
Last night I had a DFS. It was a real pleasure. For most of the past week I've been trying a new wilkinson sword classic razor. All the shaves with it were OK but not great. Last night I went back to my current favorite razor. So here is last nights gear. -Merkur 25c open comb. -Shark stainless blade (3) -Gabel's brushless cream. -The veg, with just a drop or 2 of olive oil for moisture. I enjoyed the Gabel's brushless, it was one of those products I wasn't crazy about the first few times but after learning to leave my face a little wetter than usual I've really taken to it. My little experiment with adding a drop or two of olive oil into my aftershave as I apply seems to be going well. Not to oily and last night my wife kissed me on the cheek and I got an unsolicited "your skin is really soft".
Thursday's Dove Men Face Wash C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip Schick E2 Personna Stainless CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Rose Petal WH FD Old Spice The C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip badger brush. Two passes with my Schick E2 razor and a Personna Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then FD Old Spice after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
What'll it be for Thursday morning? This! My planned shave: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/SuperMax Blue day 4 Stirling Frozen Tundra SS Gold Bond Moisturizer Alcolado Glacial Menthol Splash JHL Cologne No other soaps give me the same enjoyment as these wonderful treasures created by my good friend Rod at Stirling Soaps. The Frozen Tundra may not be as intensely-mentholated as a Glacial, but it's still PLENTY cold, with some extra effort you get rich, slick, protective lather with a very nice scent of wintergreen and other notes which I can't describe. It also gives an excellent post-shave feeling, which the Gold Bond/Penguin combination enhances.
Thanks for the info. Have you used any Above The Tie plates and if so, which one would you say it compares to? Thx.
Odin's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: Ginger's Garden Oakmoss Razor: Merkur 1904 41c OC Blade: Bic (3) Passes: WTG, XTG (7, 8) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno ASB Cologne: Cashmere Mood Late post, as the day got away from me. No menthol today, as I wanted to try to really moisturize (sorry, Jeff). I think this particular Bic was a little defective, as I could feel one side start to scrape more than the other as I started the XTG pass. I finished up using it like an SE, and opted for a 2-pass, DFS (and a tossed blade) rather than flirting with disaster on a bad blade.
prep: noxema face wash/shower brush: Omega s synthetic cream: Geo F. Trumper Spanish Leather razor: 1953 Gillette Tech blade: Dorco Blue post: Masters Bay Rum/ Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum 50/50 mix 3 pass shave today. BBS! this may be the closest shave I've ever had. I have only used this razor a few times and it is a lot easier to get my jawline and under my chin with than my other razor. first time with this cream as well. awesome scent and I only needed a tiny amount to get a huge amount of lather. all in all it was a great shave.
Here's the music I'll be listening to while I'm shaving. Tout Puissant OK Jazz from Congo-Kinshasa performing "Maya" which is an old classic, and a favourite of mine. Translations from me on request!
SOTD 5-6-15 Razor: ATT H2 plate with MR1 handle Blade: Astra SP (new) Soap: Cella (from brick) Bowl: VDH Brush: VDH Boar Post: Gentleman Jon Alum block Preshave was just face wash with warm water and post shave was rinse with warm water then some cold water splashes and pat dry, then apply the alum block Razor: First time with the H2 plate and it is very good too but I dont think it is as smooth as the H1, at least in my first impressions! Blade: One of my main go-to's so no issues at all! Fifth shave on the blade today and still felt sharp and smooth! Soap: No complaints on the Cella, it preforms just like it should and always gives me great lather and protection throughout my passes. Comments: Shave was very good and very close. I managed to get a DFS easily and a BBS on most places even most of the neck area. No weepers but slight irritation on parts of the neck based on the Aum block. Another very good shave! Although this H2 plate doesnt feel as smooth as the H1 plate, I was still able to get the same DFS/BBS shave from it but did get a little irritation though! Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV! Thx.
SOTD - Wednesday, May 6, 2015 Shower Prep: Homemade Citrus & Cedar PSO Brush: Plisson/L'Occitane synthetic Cream: Speick Razor: Weber PH Blade: Personna Lab Blue (4) Aftershave: Speick ASL
May 6 I'm hanging in there with my current set up (Weber PH, Feather blade on day 1, Shavemac two-band silvertip, and MdC scented) and had a very nice two-pass plus touch-up shave today. I'm following the advice I have received from my friends here - eliminating the glycerin and working on the soap/water ratio - and I had a more slick and protective lather today. I still have a way to go before I achieve the famed MdC lather explosion. I hope you all had a great day!
Mike, I have use the ATT M1, R1 and H1 and just didn't get on with them. However, I did find the R1 to match closest to the WR1-SB, but really, the H1 is closer with the Wolfman DE being smoother, for me. Again, this is all subjective. I have, yet, to find a smoother shaver, DE, SE, or Straight, in almost four years that can compare to me beloved Weber DLCs and I have stopeed searching.
I know everything is subjective but it is nice to compare notes anyway! LOL I am enjoying my ATT H1 plate the best so far so that is why I was wondering if the Wolfman will replace it once I get it in a couple of weeks or so! I am really wanting to get down to a minimal setup and stop searching or buying razors cause they are stainless! I tried two Weber's and didnt feel the same love for them as you do but like we say YMMV, right? Thx. for the replies!
