SOTD Thursday 5-9-2013 Gillette Old Type Ball End w/Astra SP Proraso PSC Stephen's SS in Vintage Old Spice Mug GT G4 Scuttle Natural Bristle Boar Thayer'sw Witch Hazel Nivea Replenishing ASB Florida Water Cologne This Old Type is a trooper and has seen many years of service. They are still great shavers and provides a close and comfortable shave every time. The Stephen's SS (picked up at a local Army/Navy store) is similar to VDH (it may even be made by the same company) and gives a smooth and creamy lather. A great shave for a beautiful day.
I really enjoyed the Gillette aftershave, I think I'll be using it for a while. The scent really lingers. I'm still smelling it after two hours. Pre: Proraso white Soap: Speick in Old Spice Mug After: Gillette Cool Wave Razor: Merkur Slant Blade: Feather Brush: Vulfix 404 Result: One nick, tiny, but still weeping after an hour (I had to wash my face before driving my daughter to daycare). Good shave otherwise.
Schick I2 Hydro-magic with Schick blade (4) Omega 20102 Pro Boar brush C O Bigelow shave cream Witch Hazel splash with Captain's Choice Bay Rum Cold water three pass+ for a magnificent DFS+! The Hydro-magic is providing the best shaves of my life, again and again. I'll be using the above kit for awhile! I'm learning the Bigelow well, still refining my technique with mixing and it's a real pleasure. Reminds me of mixing the right amount of half and half with coffee, I'm always experimenting! Aces!
Thursday CeraVe cleanser Razorock soap, Boston Tea Party HIS synthetic brush EJ DE89 Personna blue lab blade, Gillette yellow CeraVe lotion The HIS brush created prodigious lather from the Razorock soap. First I had a Personna blade in the razor. One stroke, OK, flipped the razor over, Ouch! Clearly one side of the blade was rough. I put in a new Gillette yellow, and it was smooth sailing on through 3 passes. Very comfortable result, and the Razorock makes my skin feel good. Normally, I stick to unscented soaps, but this Razorock has a very mild scent from green tea, and my sensitive skin seems to tolerate it OK; but to be safe, I won't use it every day.
Thursday, May 9, 2013 Pre: hot shower, AOS unscented pre-shave oil Brush: Simpson Case Cream: AOS unscented Razor: '71 Black Beauty (2 passes on 2) Blade: Derby (1) Post: AOS unscented after-shave balm Decided to try out the AOS sample pack I acquired recently, along with a new Derby blade (1st time use), and got overall very good results. I used the load/hydrate method of lathering (explained here), and it's the best I've done yet. I don't know if it's the cream, the method or a combination of both, but I was really happy with today's lather. I also gave the razor and new blade a soak in a mug with an inch of rubbing alcohol while I showered and soaked the brush. I'd never used a pre-shave oil before, and while I liked the slickness it gave to my shave, I really don't like how greasy my face is left feeling afterwards, and soon I'm probably going to go give my face a thorough wash to get rid of it. I also liked the Derby blade, it and the Astra have been best for me so far, probably unsurprising for someone with less than a month of DE shaving experience.
Yes we cheated, ah modern technology. I already have two sons from a previous marriage. I was happy to learn we can reuse all the baby clothes. Plus now we can paint his room blue.
Razorrock Jaws OC with a Bolzano blade (4) Wilkinson blue bowl soap superlathered with Sir Irisch Moos SC and two drops of peppermint oil Semogue 2000 Alum Pitralon Classic Nice shave ,nothing spectacular but satisfying in performance. Wilkies sucks as usual but parred with a good cream performs good enough...although the Irisch isn't a fav performer with me, it does smell nice The peppermint oil gave a nice cool, and a nice smell to the final combination which worked great with Pitralon.
Sorry didn't grab a pic today: Mergress + Derby Blade Simpson Duke 2 Best GFT Lime SC Gillette Intense Cooling ASB I grabbed the Gillette stuff since it was on sale at WalMart, it's surprisingly a hidden gem. The menthol isn't a big kick but you easily notice it, and it lingers for a good half an hour or so. It's not often I like balms as they tend to be greasy but this just dissipates like Niveas sensitive stuff does, very enjoyable.
