shave of the day, Thursday 13 Nov., or everything old is new again

Pre- New mix homemade pso, 3:1 macadamia/castor, eucalyptus and lavender eo... pretty nice.
    water- cold
    Soap- Derby
    mug- Golden Knight
Brush- vintage German boar, marked 'pure bristles - Germany'
    Razor- Gillette New, fat bar
Blade- CVS/Derby ...switched it out halfway
    Aftershave- Colorado Sage
    lotion- score

Today I decided to use a few things I have had sitting around, but haven't put in the rotation for one reason or another. I was reading some really favorable reviews of boar brushes yesterday, so I decided to use the one that has been collecting dust in my den. This is actually the first brush I bought, but after seeing badger badger badger on every discussion, I thought maybe I had made a mistake and shelved it. Well, I am proud to report, this brush is great! Mountains of lather, great feeling handle, and a knot that performs exactly as I want it to. The Gillette New has been sitting on the rack for a while, I never quite get to him in my rotations. In addition, I had a pack of CVS blade purchased on sale recently. I have read these are made by Persona... But even at 50% off, these were expensive at around $2.50 for 10. I have to say, they were not worth the money. They were tuggy on my stiffer stubble, and somewhat ineffective overall. I switched to a second blade just in case the first was a fluke. It was just as bad. Switched to a Derby, and everything came together. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I love Derby blades. For me, they work great. The rest of the shave went well, no injuries or irritation. I have been wishing the shave 'afterglow' lasted a bit longer, so I followed up my shave regimen with a dash of Ho Hang Club cologne. It smells amazing. But I am not used to my fragrance lasting... it is sort of freaking me out. I like it, but Cologne may take some getting used to.

I have decided to use all of the razors in my den at least once. Today I used my Gillette Slim Twist. Loaded with a Gillette blade in a plain white wrapper that I received in a PIF. This was the third shave. I had used this blade when I used my two Schick Kronas the two previous days. Again I had a smooth close shave.

    Razor: Gillette Slim (k3) 1965 (5)
Brush: Bethlehem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/45
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Cream: Castle Forbes cedarwood & sandalwood cream
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave:T.N. Dickerson’s Witch Hazel, Jack Black balm, Old Spice original Shulton Lime
    image.jpg
Whipped up the Castle Forbes, great scent, in a minute with my new Olive Wood Silvertip. Nice slick warm cushion with the soft brush on my face. The fresh Feather in the slim glided thru my beard in 2 passes WTG, XTG. My technique is getting better on my neck with ATG. The T.N. Dickerson's WH felt good on my face and that natural witch hazel scent was nice and fresh. After cleaning my razor and a little spray of isopropyl alcohol to help dry the innards, I smoothed on some Jack Black. And a splash of that great Old Spice Lime, perfect!

Ahh, RR Classic... Should you be or not be? That is the question.

First couple of shaves was awesome, but the last couple of shaves, redness and some burning sensation. I don't know if I'm allergic or not. It will get a couple more attempts if there is no improvement I'll give it to my brother so he an test his luck.

Haslinger raiserseife schafmilch saves the day. But stil not the best shave.

I thought if I used RR Classic, some day I would get the kilo Cella or 3P. But I'm afraid to get this reaction from that too

So far with trying the Riding the Cap technique it seems it doesn't work with the Schick Krona- though it works very well with the SS. I didn't even like the Krona, it just didn't seem as smooth as the SS. The blade does feel like it is cutting cleaner and I got none of the scraping feeling I get with DEs. Still, I don't like the feel of a paper thin blade (plus it has corners exposed) on my skin-- it just doesn't feel as comfortable as a GEM, ER, or injector. I will complete what I set out to do and try this new technique but I will be going back to SEs...

If you're interested in trying Riding the Cap, look at this post: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/249569-20-Shaves-from-a-Feather-Razor-(!-)

You guys must be getting sick of this Bema by now. I finished it out on the Apache Red and I really like the edge off this stone. I cloned my bottle glass green brush this weekend and now have two identical other than color. I like these brushes and will do my lions share of shaving with them. Have a good one.
