    SATURDAY
Early morning shave with the smooth-shaving Beau Brummel.
On my way out of town with my beautiful wife to the Napa Valley. Not a pleasure trip as we'll be attending a memorial service for the mother of one of my college buddies.
Should be a beautiful day for a service & seeing some good friends.

    Have a blessed day, everyone!

Shave of the day for Sat, Nov. 15, or, the Gem 1912 can't really be that good, can it?

    Pre- homemade lavender/eucalyptus oil
    Soap- Bearded Jack oakmoss vetiver
    Mug- crazy ugly vintage German
    Brush- vintage German boar
    Razor- gem 1912
    Blade- CVS
    Rinse- Thayers lavender
    Aftershave- command
    Lotion- score
    Cologne- Stetson original

So I have ended up with a few Gem razors in assorted lots I have bought. None were in perfect shape, so mostly they have gone into the 'overflow' portion of my collection. Yesterday, while reading older threads here at the Den, I kept seeing references to the Gem 1912 not only being a good shave, but often being folk's favorite shaver. That is pretty high praise. And since I have a few, and have recently bought blades, I figured I had to try it out. First off, 'Gem 1912' isn't as cut and dry as it seems. I have a few that have 1912 as a patent date in some way. None are exactly the same. The geometry is consistent, but I would be hard pressed to call them the same. So I picked out the one that felt the best in my hand. If anyone would like to chime in with the exact model info, I would not be offended (hint;)).
The bottom line is this; the opinions I read are not an exaggeration, this is a great little razor. I wouldn't call it mild, but I also wouldn't call it aggressive... balanced maybe? Regardless of label, I got a fantastic shave out of it. And it's design flew through my difficult spots. Especially right below my nostrils. I have a hard time getting many razors to grab the topmost hairs. This took them out first try. So yeah. Good razor. I am definitely going to add some to my collection, and shave rotation. Once again a thank you to the combined knowledge of the Shave Den. I really do learn something new every day!

    Saturday:
hot shower w/Murray & Lanman Florida Water bar soap
    ShaveSecret PSO
Gem Jr Fat Handle 3+ passes
    Personna Gem (3)
    Omega boar
    DeVergulde Hand Extra Fris soap
    Thayers unscented w/aloe
Murray & Lanman Florida Water cologne
    Musgo Real Oak Moss cologne

Took my new Gem Jr. out for a test run this morning. Did a couple passes pre shower, finished up post shower and got a pretty good result even though I still get a better shave with a DE. The large handle felt quite comfortable and provided a nice balance to the razor. The DeVergulde whipped up it's usual perfect lather and got a new home in one of my extra Old Spice mugs that was lonely for a soap puck. Nothing wrong with the plastic tub it came in but I like to use the heavier mugs so I can keep the soap sitting in hot water without it floating away or taking on too much water.
It was 17 degrees when I got out of bed and it dropped to 14 degrees by the time I hit the shower so I thought Florida Water sounded warm and sunny. The cologne fades pretty quickly so I added a couple of tiny spritzes of Oak Moss from a sampler.

    Shave of the day

Pre- Hot shower, Lush Coalface face wash soap

    Soap/cream- Mitchells wool fat

    Brush- Omega boar 10810

    Razor- Gillette Slim adjustable(5)

    Blade- LADAS(3)

Post- Cold water rinse, alum block and L'oreal Hydra energetic aftershave balm

Third use on the Ladas blade. Good shave, but I tossed it after anyway. I don't like pushing a blade to much.

I put the adjuster on 5 for the first time. I could really feel the difference, I got a bit of razorburn but that's my fault =P but I got a closer shave than usual. I think if I'm more careful next time I will get a close and comfortable shave.

It was a long time ago since I used both alum and the L'oreal AS. I think the balm has some alcohol in it because it stung a little bit.

MWF was nice and slick. A bit dry on the first pass but fixed it on the other passes.

I'm gonna stick to this setup for a while or until I get my package from the US, new razors and soap and cream. But I have been getting some bad shaves recently and I think it's because of the variation in gear from shave to shave.

November 15. A leisurely Saturday Shave with another razor unused by myself.
Today I used a K1 Gillette Knack made in England. Loaded with a Feather on its second shave the shave was so smooth and sharp, it was definitely AGAIG and BBS. I am thinking that the blade is the most important part of the shave. I have a lot of razors to use before I use every razor I have amassed. If I do not stay off of the Bay, I may go months before I use a razor for the second time.

Thanks. The brush is my Whipped dog. If I has the money I would buy about 100 of the Silvertip knots. Put them at the head of my bed. Throw away my pillow and just rest my head on the Silvertip knots. They are so soft.
Love DR Harris. After all the problems with my trumpers soaps it's nice to get a soap that lathers so easily.
