Tues. night: Face: Fatboy w/ Bleue Extra Head: Tech w/ US Personna C&E BBB Provence Sante Alum TSD Bergamot AS This shave was a bit rough. I seem to recall a similar result the last time I used the C&E brush with the Provence Sante. I'm thinking it's just a bad combination. I'm sometimes surprised how I can mix certain products that normally perform very well and hit a total dud of a combination. I think I need to get back to MWF for a few days.

Harris Arlington A/S: Diplomat Classic Scent Aftershave The Simpson Ehsan tore through the Harris Arlington and produced mounds of thick and rich lather. I decided to try out a new blade today and on 1st impression, I am very happy. I enjoyed a very smooth shave and the Diplomat Classic Scent aftershave was a refreshing finish.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 Razor: Merkur Progress XL Blade: Treet Platinum Super Stainless Brush: Simpson Colonel X2L Soap: Tabac A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Speick ASB I'm always happy when Tabac turns up in my rotation and, this morning, Tabac and the Treet Platinum blade turned in a very fine performance--smooth, close, and comfortable. A little dab of Speick balm and I was ready for the day.
A very similar experience this morning with an ASR blade and a Grafco razor. I've gotten great shaves from both of these item, but with the blade in different razors and the razor with different blades. Today was, meh. That being said... Wednesday Prep: Hot shower Coffee: Home roasted Kenya, BLACK Soap: TSD Bamboo & Teak Brush: C&E Pure badger Razor: Grafco Blade: ASR, day 3, 3+ passes Post: Cold water rinse, Brut ASB, Brut cologne, hand strop blade 'Stache Wax: Steve's Own Shave Rating: 3 Blades I'll take a point off for not being overly crazy about the scent of the Bamboo & Teak (the lather was great, as always with TSD soaps) and a point off for the razor/blade combo being a bit too mild. Sure, I could have worked for a closer shave... I've read where some folks have to work at getting a lather from a particular soap or work at getting near-BBS by doing extra passes. My shave time is ME time. I want to relax and enjoy it. I don't want to work for it.

The old brush made a great lather from the Tabac and I got a BBS shave with the razor/blade combo as expected. Overall a very nice and comfortable late day shave.

Wednesday, or John Gets Back On The Straight & Narrow: Coffee: Starbucks Italian Roast, Black Pre: TSD ISZ PSB Brush: The Dridecker Cream: Brian Solomon Cherry Almond Razor: EE Mos 100 5/8 Post: Witch Hazel, CVS Old Spice It has been a month or so since I picked up a straight. A shame really. Gave the EE Mos 100 or so laps on my RupRazor strop and we for it. A good solid shave, but a few rough spots. I'm committing to using a straight for every shave until the end of the year. I think that will be the best way to get a knack for the technique. It's always nice when I get up early enough to make coffee before I shave.
