I’ve heard lots of positive things about the twig but am on the fence due to it resembling a cartridge razor and I so detest those darn things ever since I’ve made the switch. Do I need to get over it?

you’ve inspired me to pick up one of these on eBay which I hope to get within the next few days. My preference has been open combs and slants with open comb slants high on the list but as of late my interest in vintage razors had been peaked and the fatboy in particular, more to come, thanks..

    2 days growth

Soaked the Semogue Cherry SOC in cold water, then did three quick 30-second cold-water face soaks. Gave the brush a light shake to get rid of the excess water, then added a couple small dollops of Proraso Cypress & Vetyver cream to the damp brush. Did a good amount of face painting, adding water here and there until I got a nice shiny wet lather.

Used the Muhle R89 with a fresh Wilkinson (Made in England) blade for two passes — one with the grain and one XTG. Great shave overall. Got a tiny weeper on the lower chin from catching the razor at an angle, but it cleared up easily with a cold rinse and a touch of Alum (barely any sting). Finished with a cold rinse, some Thayer’s that I let dry while cleaning up, then Proraso Rinfrescante followed by Cypress & Vetyver cologne.

All in all, a solid shave even without my usual pre-shave routine.

    Have a great day!

Thanks for your excellent post. That turn on the chin has gotten me more than once. I've never tried the Proraso Cypress & Vetyver.

Shave of the Week Starting 11/10/2025

Razor....................Gillette Super Speed (black handle/A4 date code)
    Blade....................Personna Gem PDG
    Brush...................APShaveCo Cashmere
    Cream.................Vi-Jon
    Post....................Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe
    A/S....................??? Who knows???

Last week I started using Vicco SC from the Indian SC bundle I picked up. 1st use was good BUT by day 3 my skin didn't like it anymore so switched to Godrej Lime Fresh SC. Worked ok so finished the week with it. Today I started out using Vi-Jon Lemon-Lime SC. Pleasant scent and worked pretty well so we'll see. The SuperSpeed/Personna Gem combo is very good for me. Comfortable and effective and easy on my face which I like at this point in life. So all is well in SE Louisiana today. Now go enjoy your day folks.

Thanks for your excellent post. I have two VI-JOHN shave creams. The Icy Mint and Fruit Fusion. They're not Premium, but they work well for me. The Fruit Fusion smells like Juicy Fruit gum.
