I had a pretty good shave this morning - my Super Speed is so reliable as well as gentle and forgiving. The Top Ten Menthol cream is not very chilly at all. In fact the menthol effect is rather subdued, and it only seems to come out during the second pass and just briefly but the lather, scent, and skincare are wonderful. Do I ever LOVE the Amici aftershave! :happy088: :happy088:

Here's what I have on tap for Thursday morning:

    Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
    Super Speed/Derby day 4
Karo Fresh S/C :smiley freezing: (if even that!)
    Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:
    Alt Innsbruck A/S Splash :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily::Animatedfrozensmily:

Truthfully and honestly the Karo Fresh is in my opinion, a LOUSY cream. I hate the scent and the only reason I haven't thrown it in the garbage is because it does lather very well. Skincare-wise it's very much lacking which is very unusual for a Bulgarian cream because the majority of them are awesome that way. Once this tube is finished I'll forget I ever had it. The ingredient list says it contains menthol, but you'd hardly know it. On the other hand, the Alt Innsbruck smells great and is VERY mentholated! ;) :D

Catie's Bubbles - Quatre Cent Vingt

Quatre Cent Vingt is my first experience with Catie's Bubbles. I'm not sure how or why I've gone this long without trying something from this prominent and highly regarded artisan. QCV seemed like a reasonable jumping off point. I've read others' reviews, and it seems that generally the cannabis fragrance is understated. As has been noted, the note is that of the cannabis flower as opposed to the leaf or stem. It's not too far separated from the familiar marijuana fragrance, however. That said, it's not dominant, and it makes for an interesting fougère. Lathering it simply amplifies the fragrance from the puck, so this is one of the few soaps that you can get a real scent impression from the dry product.

Catie's Bubbles' reputation is well established as a high quality soap. This being my first use, I will make adjustments next time. Interestingly, it didn't seem to handle water as well as many of my other soaps, and as a result, slickness suffered a bit. Being a head and face shaver, I handled this shave like two separate shaves. After finishing my face, I wrung out the brush and reloaded. The head lather was much better with nice density, but I would rate the slickness a 6 on a 1-10 scale (Stirling being a 7, B&M Glissant being a 9). I don’t think this slight deficiency is solely due to the fact that it's vegan, because Dr. Jon's out-scores it as well.

This shouldn't be taken as a review of the soap but rather a first impression. I'm of the opinion that to fairly evaluate a soap, it should be used several times and, if possible, with various knots. I just counted 32 different brands of soap in my den, and the only time I recall having a less than stellar first impression that I later overturned was with Through The Fire Fine Craft. (If you're wondering how I could possibly keep track of that, I have an app.) Again, it should be noted, this is still a fairly slick soap. I simply have several soaps that are slicker. At either rate, using the 1912 SE made it a non-issue.

The real surprise came afterwards. The post-shave with QCV is incredible. My skin felt very well hydrated and exhibited a softness that approaches that of Nuàvia.

Despite the fairly robust fougère during the shave, it faded quickly after the final rinse. I wanted to enjoy it a bit longer, so I did use the matching splash. The result was a silky feel to my scalp and face. The same notes were present if not a bit sharper, and within a few minutes a very subtle floral sweetness came through. Overall, this is one of the lighter fragrances I've used. Just an hour later, it's only faintly present. I wouldn't mind it lasting longer, but at least one can be confident it won't draw suspicion in mixed company or conflict with a EdT.

I think, based on the post-shave alone, I will be trying more of Catie's Bubbles' offerings.

    Happy Thanksgiving, ladies and gentlemen!

I like the fact that your brush matches part of the soap and balm in color(green)

Thanks Paul. Figured since I was using British razor, go with British made brush too and make it at as close as possible to forest green I could.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We are in Simpsonville, SC, with our youngest son's family. Oldest son's family is on the way down from Charlotte, NC. It is going to be a great day.

The TSD Killer Queen Shaving Cream face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #133 silvertip badger brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Fatboy with a Wilkinson Sword Super Sword-Edge blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Aqua Velva Musk After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Grand Blade Trial - Thanksgiving Eve

Razor - Nope, not touching it tonight.
Blade - Not using one of these either.
Soap - No razor or blade, means no soap.
Brush - No soap means no brush.
Post - No razor, blade, soap or brush - means nothing to do after nothing.

It's the night before Thanksgiving and all through the "Lou"...
The carjackers had stolen not one, but a slew.
The North Side was quiet except for the sounds.....
Of a hundred or so of 9 mm rounds.

I went to the den a shave to complete
and even decided to turn up the heat.
And yet when I got there I realized a fact.....
We're closed tomorrow so no need to act.

I put down the Greager and turned out the light
And settled back in for no shave tonight.

I wish you all happiness and thanks for your time......
I think we've all had enough of this rhyme.

    Have a great night everyone!
