BRUTALLY cold. Loved it. Had yo use my ice scraper to get the towel off my face. Like yesterday, The Sledgehammer gave me a dozen weepers, but, also like yesterday, the irritation settled down into a Good Enough Shave.

Mastro Livi "The Last New Grind", 6/8 Half Hollow, Round Point

In this business trip I took with me a masterpiece and a unique piece of art: the very last Mastro Livi "New Grind", the last of a long and glorious series whose story has been narrated by Mastro Livi in a video I made last year. Not only the last one of a long series, but also a precious work of art, scales in particular. They are in fact made of buckeye burl having three inlays of mother of pearl, abalone and gray mother of pearl. In the tips of the scales have been inserted two small plates made of nickel silver, of course handsigned by Mastro Livi. As for the blade, everyone who owns this famous Mastro Livi razor knows how good it is in shaving, giving a superb and smooth shave. And I am very proud for being the privileged owner of the very last Mastro Livi "new grind" razor, an important piece of history started in the 1930s and brought back to life by Mastro Livi. Superb, excellent and precious straight razor!

today's shave was nice. Gary always makes a nice brush. soap commander lathers so nicely. three passes with the slim(sorta familiar, like going home or seeing an old friend). I'm smooth and comfy. finished with the "dry" lime. makes a very nice match.
hope y'all did as well, or better.

First post in a long time, I hope everyone is well.

    Stirling bay rum
    Parker best badger
Muhle ('11) R41 (Personna blue) with Weber bulldog handle
    Cold water rinse/alum
Captain's Choice Cat 0' Nine Tails

What a delightful shave this morning. I picked up the bulldog handle in October and it has really improved my experience with this and the '13 model. Smooth, ultra close, comfortable... But that handle has really made a dramatic improvement in my view.

    Happy Thursday!

Actually, cold water will make the hairs stand up better, and since I use an instrument that is "razor sharp" they just get slice right off. It is refreshing and invigorating as well. I just use the cold water from the tap. I don't ice it down or anything that drastic.

Prep: Hot shower, Nivea for Men Original Moisturizing Face Wash
    Brush: Beeline Boar
    Lather: Stirling Glacial Obsidian
Razor: Birth year/quarter Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (1, 2, 3)
Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS splash
Cologne: Gigember Estragone by Dr. Vranjes

First shave with the new-to-me 1st Quarter 1971 Gillette Black Handle Super Speed that I received from the generous @Epimetheus. In some ways, this was an unfair maiden voyage for it, as neither my current boar brush nor the Stirling Glacial Obsidian are my top performers, but the SS has a reputation as a relatively mild, forgiving razor, and these were the tools otherwise lined up for today. The lather was good, relatively speaking; it wasn't on par with soaps and creams that perform better for me, but it was about as good as I expect from Stirling based on my experience and technique.

First impressions of the Black Handle SS: This razor is both lighter and milder than any other DE I've tried to date. It wasn't until the first XTG pass that I could honestly say I felt, rather than heard, any beard reduction happening. Some minor fiddling with the angle told me that I had, in fact, gotten the angle about right to begin with and needed to stop messing with it. Of course, this meant there was no tugging going on, either. I almost never do 3 passes on a blade's maiden voyage, but the SS seemed so mild that I decided I could probably do three passes irritation-free. As it turns out, I was correct. While not the closest shave I've ever gotten in 3 passes, it qualifies as DFS+, with the added benefit of - to paraphrase the old Johnny Bench commercials for a paint product - no burns, no nicks, no irritation.

Really nice shave. I received a nice sample of this soap from Ed some time ago and wow it's definitely top shelf. I'm starting to change my opinion on boar brushes, the problem may have been I've never used one long enough for it to really break in. That might change. Hey rain today!! :sad029:
