I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Musgo Real Colgate Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #235 synthetic brush. I did the two passes with the Gem 1911 Lather Catcher and vintage Gem Jr. blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

FIVE + BLADE Cartridge Razor DISTRACTION
A recent post by Eddie (Relapse?) over in General Shaving Talk motivated me to begin using some 5+ blade cartridges - like I used to do over 8 years ago.
My intention, is to hone my skill (pun intended!?!) on the most modern of wet shaving tools... the ubiquitous 5+ blade razors.
NEWSFLASH! ALL of the shaves produced excellent BBS results - clean and smooth.

Here is the story so far:
    SOTD 11/2/2017 THURSDAY
RAZOR: Drug Mart CALIBER 5 Pivot Razor (disposable) - BARGAIN - 3 for $$2.99
BLADE: FIVE (*compare to Gillette Fusion 5 Blade razor)
BRUSH: Marvy #923 - from local Sally Beauty
PREP: hot water shower with Zest soap, hot water rinse
PRE-SHAVE: Bloom water from shave mug
SOAP: Hybrid (blended) Col. Conk Bay Rum + VDH Luxury Shave Soap- face lather
    POST SHAVE: Hot water rinse
AFTER SHAVE: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    BALM: NONE
    Caliber_5_Marvy_Soap_Birds.jpg
This is my latest acquisition in a disposable razor. On sale with an in-store coupon -was out the door for less than $1 per razor.
This is a Gillette Fusion style razor made by Personna now under the Schick Wilkinson Sword umbrella. Nice shaver.
This razor puts some serious lubrication on your face while shaving. It actually leaves strings of spittle between razor and cheek. Kind of like a wet kiss.
The resulting shave was excellent (even though messy) 5-pass BBS. I would like it to be more efficient. Maybe more pressure is required.

    SOTD 11/3/2017 FRIDAY
RAZOR: Drug Mart CALIBER 5 Pivot Razor (disposable) - Personna/Schick Wilkinson Sword
BLADE: FIVE (*compare to Gillette Fusion 5 Blade razor)
BRUSH: NO - applied by hand
PREP: hot water shower with Zest soap, hot water rinse
    PRE SHAVE: None
CREAM: Personal CARE Extra Thick SENSITIVE Shave Cream
    POST SHAVE: Hot water rinse
AFTER SHAVE: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    BALM: NONE
    Caliber_5_PersonalCare_AV_IceBlue.jpg
I decided to change up my approach for the Caliber 5 this time, using canned shave cream (less lubricating) and no preshave.
I also slowed down my shaving stroke and applied very deliberate pressure until I could actually feel the blade cutting the whiskers.
The resulting shave was a wonderful 2-pass BBS with touchups. Much quicker and more efficient, and less face abrasion. Nailed it.

    SOTD 11/4/2017 SATURDAY
RAZOR: TopCare (Dorco Pace 6 Blade Handle - SXA1000)
BLADE: TopCare 6 blade (Pace 6 Cartridges)- this blade had been used maybe 6-7 years ago then put away.
PREP: Hot water face wash with Ivory Soap, hot water rinse
BRUSH: NO - applied by hand
    PRE-SHAVE: NO
SHAVE CREAM: Gillette Fusion Proglide Sensitive - Ocean Breeze
    POST SHAVE: Hot water rinse
AFTER SHAVE: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    BALM: NONE

UP THE ANTY to - 6 BLADES baby! Changed to this cool shave tool that I dug out of my stash from maybe as long as 8 years ago.
Cleaned it up a few days ago, didn't even change the cartridge, just clean with a toothbrush, alcohol soak, and hand strop.

I decided to go FULL MODERN and use this Gillette Fusion cream that I got a few years ago for free. Didn't even know if the can would dispense.
This stuff has an excellent scent AND a nice cooling menthol. But on the second dispense, the cream started coming out under the cap. Another mess.
The resulting shave was another EXCELLENT (better than the 5 blade Caliber) 6 blade 2-pass BBS shave - minor touchups.
Again, it seems that the pressure is the key. I applied WAY MORE pressure than I would ever consider with less protective razors.

Though these razors will probably NEVER replace my more favored traditional shaving tools, I am having fun using some different tools and technique.

    Have a great weekend!

Tonight's shave was perfect. It was with a freshly honed and acquired razor. I had a buttery smooth 2 pass shave, that left me Baby Dolphin Butt Smooth(BDBS). Zero Issues. A beauty of an American Razor.

Razor- New England Razor Co. . Boston.
    Brush- Stirling Boar
    Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy Scented
    Aftershave- Avon Spicy

Yesterday's shave of the day 11.3.2017 (no shave today)

    Head Shave Only:
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: VDH badger
Lather / Cream: Barbasol Sensitive Skin travel can + Cremo Lathering Cream Sandalwood http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...m-travel-can-experiment-sensitive-skin.57755/
    Razor: Pal adjustable injector
Blade: Chinese Schick (3rd or 4th use I believe)
Post-shave: Thayer's WH, Afta Original AS Skin Conditioner, Skin Bracer

The combination of the Barbasol and Cremo lathering cream provided an excellent, slick, protective layer for my shave. I never achieve BBS on a head shave, but it was a DFS, nevertheless with this Pal razor set on #3. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

November 4 - Ok,we'll call it a Qshave Focus now

    Razor - Qshave Futur Clone
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Stirling Ozark Mountain
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum & Styptic

Well I'm happy to leave out the bloody description tonight. A very good shave with the second run of the Bic CP in the Qshave dialed up to 4. Stirling Ozark Mountain and the JR46 for enough lather to share with everyone and the result of the shave is a very nice DFS. Turning it up to 4 made me very mindful of pressure. I moved my grip further toward to the end of the handle to allow the razor to just rest on my face as I moved it. The audible was incredible and the blade remained smooth and effective. Each time you dial up this razor you're opening up more angles on each setting you can work with. I tried to stay at the optimal angle and just keep it there. Two passes and very little touch up was required for the DFS. Very nice. Alum....just a bit on the warm side. All in all a very nice shave with the lingering scent of the Ozark Mountain soap. Nice!
