SOTD 10/19/2017
RAZOR: Gillette Fusion
BLADE: - features five blades spaced closer together (vs MACH3) for incredible comfort.
BRUSH: NO
PRESHAVE: Hot water wash with Ivory Soap, followed by hot water rinse.
CREAM: All About Men Advanced Moisture Shave Cream
POST SHAVE: Hot water rinse
AFTER SHAVE: None

For reasons I won't get into, I had less than 5 minutes for the shave this morning.
Got out the most readily available, always dependable Gillette Fusion for a quick, mindless shave.
CONFESSION: I have quite a few of the ORIGINAL Gillette Fusion handles laying around. I used to get them free with a 4 pack of my deodorant.
The Fusion razor provided a trouble free 1 pass DFS. I actually get a fine, issue free BBS shave from these if I take multiple passes.
I keep them around, and have occasionally found the blades on clearance - still not a great deal @ $1-2.cart, but good to use in a pinch.
I actually like this handle. It is comfortable in the hand, and has enough metal and weight to give a very solid feel.

Maybe someday the fusion cartridges will be clearing out for much less. I used to get maybe 2-4 weeks of daily shaves on one of these.
I keep a few around to use when I am in a hurry, so they are usually used one or two days in a row and then put away for quite a few days.

The All About Men is more of a gel than a cream. It does not lather, so I have used it as a pre-shave with varied results. It provides some slickness.
The shave cream had a sufficient amount of slippery moisturizing slickness, and a nice pine scent.
So I got a simple, easy, and issue free shave, with almost no prep. It was good.

I couldn't wait to get home today after I saw I had a new toy waiting on the USPS website. They delivered the Jayaruh #54 today and I spent the rest of the day pacing to try and make the time pass faster. I have to say not only am I not disappointed, I'm beyond happy with this brush. Unbelievable grain in the wood, great contrast of wood colors, the craftsmanship is impeccable.....it's beyond perfect. The Maggard Synthetic knot doesn't hurt anything either. Thanks @Jayaruh for allow me to adopt this one. He will have a good home and help keep #46 company!

I put #54 right into the fray with Electric Sheep over the pre-shave soap. The brush feels fantastic in my hand. I love the style of the 400 and it really handles well. No problem to come up with enough lather for a couple of nights of shaving. The shave itself was 2 passes and touch up and yet another BBS. Matthew is showing off since he has an appointment in December for a new finish. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and votes. I've decided what I'm going to do with him but I'll let it be a surprise. As well as this razor performs with the Voskhod it needs to be redone and given another hundred years of life!

I pushed the ring into the center of the jar for easier loading. I don't think this soap will make it eleven more days. The shave was a superb combination of comfort and efficiency. Gondolier finished up nicely and last a good long time for me.

A lightening fast three pass shave this morning with the Gillette Sensor 5. I am smooth and refreshed. Have a great day gentlemen. ☺️

 

Smoother than silk in three such enjoyable passes from my el cheapo Junjie DE - would you guys believe that I paid 2,50$ CAD for it at a dollar store near my house? My Astra blade is still holding up well and performing like a champ. The Gin & Tonic on the Rocks soap IMHO, is one of the BEST creations Rod ever came out with - its scent is so fresh and nice, its lather is fantastic, and the menthol effect is pretty darned STRONG - easily at the same level as the regular MITA soap. Like all Stirling soaps I have, you get great post-shave care from this one. Am I ever going to miss this Shambala aftershave when it's finished because it smells beautiful and it gives a terrific menthol kick!
