    Good morning everyone.

Just finished my first shave of No Variation NOVember. My setup:

    november Kopie.jpg

    - D.R. Harris Sandalwood soap
    - Semogue 620
    - Mühle R89
    - Gillette Silver Blue (shave #1)

AS this time. Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser

I haven't used the Mühle (my first DE razor) for quite a while and I have to say: it is capable of a much better shave than I gave him credit for when I changed to Merkur ;) Effortless and clean shave - but:
Something wasn't quite right with yesterday's shave, had some itchy areays around the jawbone ... maybe some sort of allergic reaction to the SC sample I used. So I just did 2 quick passes today with no touchups and went lightly on the itchy skin parts.

To my embarrassment I have to say: I had to reload the brush after the first pass. Still haven't figured out that boar yet - how much water to use, how much soap to load. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the Plisson Synthetic I used for quite a while - that thing lathers up almost everything pretty much without any hassle.

But all in all - really goood start :happy088:

What a soap this Grön Lycka is - an awesome scent, great lather, and beautiful skincare. The Hega aftershave feels so comfortable with NO stinging sensation whatsoever. Once again, both these products are from Sweden! (another perfect shave!) :happy088:

Honing a Mastro Livi RWL34 Straight Razor

Everything started when some gentlemen told me about their unsuccessful attempts in honing a Mastro Livi RWL34 straight razor. I admit I never honed a Mastro Livi razor because, so far, none of the ones I own needed any edge refresh or honing. As a matter of fact, the very first Mastro Livi straight razor I bought two years and a half ago still shaves like the first day. The same I can say about my first Mastro Livi RWL34 razor and which I bought a little more than two years ago. I however wanted to try this myself and see how hard or difficult was honing a Mastro Livi RWL34 razor. I opted for this razor - the last RWL34 I bought - severely dulled its edge on a glass, then honed it from scratch using a Naniwa 3k/8k combo hone, a Guang Xi stone (Chinese stone), Mastro Livi loom strop, his chromium oxide stick and hand palm. I needed the last and ultimate test in order to assess the quality of my honing and it had to be, of course, shaving. Well, this RWL34 razor has a beautiful edge capable of giving me a super smooth and velvety shave, just like every Mastro Livi razor is capable of giving. As far as I can tell and based on my own experience, honing a Mastro Livi RWL34 straight razor is nothing different than honing any other stainless steel razor and I must tell this RWL34 stainless steel seems to be quite "docile" when you pass it on a hone. Superb Mastro Livi shave, as usual!

Another great shave with B1. The Chinese Schick blade seems to work really well in this razor. 2 pass BBS! This Taconic shave cream is pretty nice, the spearmint has a nice cooling effect and the lather is slick. Hope everyone has a good day! image.jpeg

The North aftershave is good stuff! I doctored mine up with some menthol and the juniper scent along with the menthol is perfection.

    ***UPDATE***

Well I tried 100% straight but caved in and pulled out the Feather MR3 to maneuver around my pointed chin WTG and XTG. Overall between 90-95% straight today and only succumbed to the MR3 after I gave myself a 1/2 nick on right side fiddling around trying to find the right angle R side of chin where it rounds out to the cheek. Also first time in two years that I got razor burn since I went back to back days with 2011 R41 years ago. Felt a little sting on left nothing major until I ran the Monster Alum Block over my face and whole left cheek lit up. Have a lot to learn with using a straight and looks like I will have to have a DE around for a least awhile to maneuver around the chin and hopefully as I get closer to 30 days, I will be able to use a straight 100% while shaving.

    Sunday:

Prep: Hot shower, Nivea for Men Original Moisturizing Face Wash, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
    Lather: Ginger's Garden Oakmoss soap
    Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (6, 7)
Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's witch hazel, Pinaud Clubman AS splash
Cologne: Le 3e Homme de Caron by Caron

Last day of my "Walk in the Woods Week" and the last of my TSD Jasmine Samback preshave balm, too. The lather I got this AM looked good on the brush but was probably a little too wet, judging from its performance once face-lathered. Comfortable enough, to be sure, but could have been a bit better cushioning than it was today. Two passes got me DFS results, but I was getting warning signals from my neck not to press my luck, so I stopped there. Tomorrow, we'll see about joining the No-Variation November madness.
