    Vacation shave kit

I just got back late Sunday night from a wonderful vacation: ten days as a tourist in New England. Got to see lots of fall color in New Hampshire and Vermont. Took four train rides.

Anyway, I had to pick a minimal shave kit that was compact, no fuss, that could give me a comfortable shave every day.

    CeraVe facial cleanser
    Petal Pusher unscented soap
Mühle hjm black fiber synthetic brush
    Schick type I injector
    Personna blades
    CeraVe lotion

    Tuesday:

Prep: Hot compress, Crown Shave Co. Supreme Glide Pre-Shave Lotion
    Brush: VDH Boar
Soap: Ginger's Garden Grapefruit Mint Glycerin-in-a-jar
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Sputnik Teflon (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG
Post: Cold water rinse, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno Active Naturals ASB
Cologne: Burberry Brit for Men by Burberry

I decided to stick with the Grapefruit Mint for a few days in an effort to get the lather more stable; today's lather was an improvement over previous attempts with this variety, though it wasn't where I want it to be yet. The Sputnik was clearly on its last legs, though, and by the second pass I threw in the towel on it, with irritation along my jawline and a merely fine shave. On to the Voshkhod tomorrow to see if there's a marked difference in these two Teflon-coated offerings for me.

    Tuesday

    CeraVe foaming facial cleanser
    Razorock Boston Tea Party soap
Oscar11 custom brush with HIS knot
    Gillette Franken-Tech
    Gillette yellow blade
    CeraVe lotion

The razor today is my fat-handled Tech with the milder base plate from a ball-handled Tech. The Razorock soap made a pleasant lather, and the razor gave me a smooth comfortable shave in three passes.

Not really a stellar shave today, the lather seemed good at first and then it just started dissipating. Alum block didn't really sting but a few weepers were there.

    Great shave today! BBS

    Prep: Burt's Bees face wash
    Soap: Tabac
    Brush: Parker synthetic
    Razor: Merkur Classic 33c
    Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock yellow (5)
    AS: Krampert's Finest Bay Rum

What a great shave today! I am energized and ready to go after a double shot of Krampert's. I used less water in my lather, and that made a big difference in slickness and face feel today.

    Have a great Tuesday.

    Brush: BF Greenie
    Cream: Ingram
Post: Alum, Thayer's & Nivea Creme

Pay 'n Save blade was pretty good! I'm glad because I bought that Rocket with 100 Pay 'n Save and 10 Gillette Thins blades for $47.50. It was only on the bay for 1 minute. Got it in and weighted it, 71g the heavy model!!!:happy093:

Gillette Fusion Proglide Power with Proglide Power ct. (3)
    Semogue 1305 boar bristle brush,
MWF soap, lather with hot water & shave—
apply Gillette Cool Wave for a damn fine shave!

Incredible luxury shave this morning with the amazing Fusion Proglide Power treatment. I can't get enough of this modern Gillette product. With wet shave technique it is providing the best shaves ever.

MWF soothing and slick, with the softness of the Semogue 1305 boar bristle made my morning. The brush has a beautiful bloom now, the split ends appearing everywhere - it's breaking in wonderfully. Aces!

    • Prep: shower, Bulldog Original face wash
    • Razor: Cobra Classic
    • Blade: Feather Pro (6)
    • Brush: New Forest Tubby 2
    • Cream: Proraso (R.I.P.)
    • Post: alum, T.N. Dickinson's Witch hazel
    • Aftershave: Proraso lozione dopobarba
My oldest cream bit the dust today. It provided me with some very horrible shaves and many good ones. When I get through the rest of my soaps and creams I'll make sure to pick up the new formulation of the Proraso.

It is a purple acrylic masterpiece gifted to me by Oscar11. Steve sent me a pm a while back asking if I would like the brush as it wasn't seeing much use.

I eagerly accepted and it has since become a favorite seeing regular use.

Day eight of the federal shutdown and day eight of this Shark Super Chrome blade. Although the Parker brush is a good brush, for some reason, it has become skritchy to my face. The Col. Conk Bay Rum soap was nice on the face today, and it helped to produce a mighty fine shave with the EJ89 and the Shark blade. I've been working on my technique, especially the light touch. Dickinson's WH and Pinaud Clubman were a perfect finish. I will be switching to the Gillette New tomorrow to sync with the open comb week on TSD. Will take the blade with me. Hopefully it will outlast the shutdown.

Bad lather for the first pass and the razor was not sliding very well. Second pass saw much better lather and the save was noticeably improved. I needed a third pass but decided to error on the side of caution.
