    I too like the look of vintage...But tend to stick with what works better for me. Closest, most comfortable shave rules the day!

    Thanks, Bruce.
    Can you tell I really liked that razor? :)
    Re: the photo— at 4:30am, there's no sunlight so I had to make do in a dark, incandescent-lit bathroom. Fortunately, the camera has a low-light sensitivity setting for hand-held, no flash images. A bit grainy, but that's the trade-off. Plus shooting chrome can be a challenge...

    All the negative factors above considered; the end result was extrodinary! It has a very Currier & Ives quality about the end result that is very classy. Whatever you did...it worked! :D

    Great review man!

    Speaking of the upper lip, I think it's time to shave off the ol' mustache so I can shave my whole face again :)

    Day nine of the federal shutdown and day nine with this Shark Super Chrome blade. Today I have changed razors to the Gillette New short comb with bar handle to participate with the open comb theme. The Frank Shaving finest badger brush is my favorite badger. It lathers all my soaps and creams easily. The Col. Conk lime provided a nice cushion for the two passes. This is the best two pass shave I can remember. I had forgotten how well these News shave. It was a wonderful, close, irritation free shave. Dickinson's WH and the Aqua Velva AS completed a mighty fine shave. Let's hope that this blade will outlast the shutdown.

    Thank you! I had a mustache for nearly 25 years before going 'nekid lip' about 5 years ago. I do still have a 'soul patch' which is a challenge at times to shave around. Sometimes I wish it wasn't there so I could quickly & cleanly shave the entire chin south of the lower lip. Less facial hair = more shaving real estate!

    * Shower:
    • Soap: Shea Moisture Utility Bar Soap
    • Shampoo: Suave For Men Ocean Charge

    * Shave:
    • Prep: Hot shower, Nivea Face Wash, Hot towel
    • Brush: Van Der Hagen Boar
    • Lather: Shea Moisture Utility Soap
    • Razor: Merkur 23C
    • Blade: Derby Extra (3)
    • Passes: WTG/XTG/ATG/RXTG
    • Post: Warm water rinse, Cold water rinse, Alum Block, Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, Ivy Club Spice Aftershave

    Today I did something different. Very different. I shaved with the Shea Moisture Utility (shower, shampoo, shave) bar. As a shower soap it's amazing, the scent is nice and woodsy and it moisturizes better than any bar soap I've tried. As for the shave? I loaded up my VDH boar and it immediately bursts into sudsy lather. I then attempted to whip it in a bowl and it is very airy and foamy. I applied it to my face and it's very bubbly and foamy. It tickled my face as the bubbles were popping, but that said it provided a slick surface and resulted in a comfortable shave. Not bad. It's just different and weird, I think I'll hold off on using it as a shave soap but as a shower soap I think I found my new favorite. No pic today, sorry. Forgot to take one.

    Prep: FitjarSoap Pre Shave Soap
    Razor: Merkur HD
    Blade: Super-Max Platinum (1)
    Brush: Proraso Boar
    Soap: Mitchells Wool Fat
    Aftershave: La Toja Aftershave Splash
    Moisturizer: Fitjarsoap Shea Butter Moisturiser

    Tried the Super-Max Platinum blade and it was pretty decent. Not particularly sharp, but pretty smooth nonetheless. If I did not already have a hundred (purchased by mistake) I would probably not be tempted to buy more. But since I do have the above mentioned lot, I am still happy to have them in my den (go figure :) )
    It left me with a smooth DFS and a happy face.
    The LaToja splash had something to do with that, a wonderful product. And the Shea Butter moisturiser was the icing on the cake.
    Aces, as Mr. Leo K would say :happy088:
