    Friday:

Prep: Hot shower, Crown Co. Supreme Glide Pre-shave Formula
    Brush: Beeline Boar
Soap: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine Glycerin
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bic Hi-Chrome Platinum (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG
Post: Cold water rinse, Alum, cold water rinse, Dickinson's WH, Aveeno Active Naturals ASB
Cologne: The Third Man by Caron

That's so much better. For my face, the Bic is so much smoother and more comfortable than either of the Teflon-coated blades I've just tried. Three passes got me near to BBS, with a slightly too-thin lather the most likely reason I didn't catch the baby. That slightly too-thin lather also meant I caught a nick on my Adam's Apple (a common trouble spot for me), which was the only reason I reached for the alum today.

    Homemade Cedarwood PSO
    Maggard MR4
    Gillette Wilkinson (1)
    VDH boar
    Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood Cream
    Alum
    Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood AS

Lots of sandalwood today including TOBS bar soap for the shower and GFT deodorant. First shave with my new Maggard razor. So far my Parker 80R is the only DE I've ever used so it was quite interesting to try something different and note the change in blade performance. This is a heavy razor so gravity does a lot of the work.

A week of very nice shaves. I removed the 28mm knot from it's black handle during my lunch hour yesterday and relofted it to 50mm. Have a good one.

    AS: Krampert's Finest Bay Rum

I went back to the slant today to compare it to the shaves I've been enjoying with my classic. My face is certainly smooth, DFS, but I have much more irritation this time, and I needed to use the alum block for the first time in a week to close some weepers.
I did not change my technique, but perhaps he blade has something to do with it. I won't decide until I use a few Gillette yellows with it.
It still took three passes to get DFS, which surprised me... another result of the Astra? I'll try again with a Feather and re-evaluate.

    Have a great Friday!

    CeraVe foaming facial cleanser
    Mystic Water unscented soap
Oscar11 custom brush with HIS knot
    EJ DE89
    Personna lab blade
    CeraVe lotion

Last time I tried a Personna lab blade, I had a bad one-one edge was good, the other edge rough and tuggy. Had the same experience today! I got my blades in trade from several different forum members, so it's not a single batch. The shave was going OK until I flipped the razor over to use the other edge and ouch! That blade is going into the bin and tomorrow I will use something else. Has anybody else had this issue with these blades?

I finished the shave using the good edge only. Three passes, satisfactory results, but not the most comfortable shave.

No time for new pic again...I was getting some irritation after using the OC this week. Not sure if this is why, but haven't had any irritation for a while. Hope it improves today, because I have a 2011 R41 coming in the mail today! Have a great day all!

Today was my 2nd day using the 37c and though I received another great shave, I should have went with the longer handle of the 39C. Going to give it a week to see if I can get comfortable with this razor but too short and a little to light for my tastes.

Gillette Fusion Proglide Power with Proglide Power cartridge (6)
    Semogue 1305 boar bristle brush,
MWF soap, lather with hot water & shave—
apply Captain's Choice Lime for a damn fine shave!

The Proglide cartridge is really sharp and smooth. I am able to cleanly shave my chin without leaving any hair bits poking out. My chin feels really smooth and I love it. Aces!

The Money-Bak Razor Company was one of the many American Razor manufactures in Little Valley New York after the turn of the 20th century. One of the notables in that area was the Case Bros who were the precursor to Genco who bought the Case Bros razor works out in 1942. Case went on to produce the quality Case Knives and pocket knives we are all familiar with. These razors were quality products, had good American steel and, their performance is equal to many of the English and German straights. Old King Gillette, with his new fangled DE razors, took over the shaving market during the early 1900's and doomed the American straight razor companies. It is good to see there are some modern straight razor companies starting to provide quality straight razors here in the USA again. Hart Steel comes to mind. Their market is limited and the razors are really custom made beauties so, no cheapies here! They are beautiful quality blades though that's for sure. Great shave this morning and I won't be asking for my Money Back! :D

This is a public service saftey announcement to all of my SoS amigos. DO NOT USE THIS SOAP BEFORE YOU SHAVE! Why? Because it's aimed at shrinking pores; and it works. Tight pores are not typically ideal for a close shave. As always YMMV. It does smell great, and is nice. I'd suggest it as a before bed rinse, just not before anticipating a close shave. It was not the new Jagger cream, five uses of my feather blade, or whatever else I'd thought that lead to rough shaves; it was this soap. image.jpg

    FRIDAY
Another day, Another new razor to try...

Pre: Hot shower & hot towel; Shea Moisture 'Beard Lifter' scrub; homemade PSC
    Razor: G.E. Jones 'Shake Sharp'
    Blade: Astra SP (day 1)
    Brush: Whipped Dog 16mm Silvertip
    Lather: RazoRock Cumba Cheech
Shave: Two passes & light touch-up
Post: Coldwater rinse, Alum block, Nivea balm

First time using the uniquely-designed 'Shake Sharp' razor— a SE razor that uses standard DE blades. It has a built-in blade sharpener designed to maintain the blade's edge with regular use when shaken prior or after each use. Hence, the name. Bottom line: GREAT shave! Two passes to get a BBS shave, with no irritation—and no blood. Thanks to Ryan (PLANofMAN) for the loan of this fine razor. Now I may have to find my own!

More of my experience with this razor can be found here
