There's a big difference in how coffee smells when it's roasted and then how it smells coming right out of the grinder.
I prefer it just out of the grinder. Not quite heaven, I'm sure, but it sure is good.

Kicked it Old School today. The Perma-Sharp blades have never let me down, and it seemed to tame the old style nicely. The HH#6 made easy work of the Tabac and the Vintage English Leather complimented it well. A Great 2 pass DFS, thought about a third pass, but I know my limitations with the old style. Great tip for Newbies, know your limitations.

Have a great day, Gentlemen. And may peace be with you.

I developed a "bump" last night and I would have been very surprised if I hadn't sliced into it. I forgot about it's existence so I did slice it. Out came the styptic pencil. No big deal.

Great shave otherwise, an easy BBS w/ 2 full passes and 2-3 touch up "passes" over the difficult areas (my normal shave).

Well, I suppose it's about time to chime in around here.

    Lord L6
    Derby Extra blade
    VDH "El Cheapo™" boar brush
    Tabac shaving soap
    Generic Witch Hazel
Aqua Velva ice blue (I only have two choices at this point, the other is Old Spice classic, which though I like, tends to be clingy and I didn't want to smell it for hours)
Pinaud Styptic pencil (I got a booboo! :angry017:)

I'm still going though my sampler pack, the Derby Extra blade seemed alright, it was smooth and irritation free, but it seemed like I had to really work with it to get the really tough spots (I guess that's why I got cut). All it all it was still a pretty good shave.

I enjoy the Feather Popular too. I've found it to work well with many different blades. But it doesn't work well for me with a feather blade unless I'm going for the blood bath look.

Yet another DE shave. Seems I grab my straight on weekend only. Besides, this weeks becomes a "cream week" for me...
    Cold water only

Merkur 23C/BlueBird#7 (I'd better retire the blade yesterday)
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
    Phyto Expert Sensitive SC
    Mayor Energy Platinum lotion splash

Very nice DFS+ shave. It could be better with a new blade, but it is not bad at all. I love my DEs, I must confess... Straights are very different, but if I have to choose one, I could not...

I had a computer problem, so I was not able to tell anyone about the shave I had this morning. It was a very enjoyable experience with this Mentolo soap, which is no longer available. I'll post a review about it soon. It has a very nice scent, and the lather is very rich, although it requires just the right soap/water ratio to get it going properly. The cooling effect is very strong, although not as intense as Iced Subzero. The skincare is good although still our Queen's soaps are still in front! ;)

    Wednesday night:

    Personna Shavette
    Voskhod (1)
    TGN Silvertip Badger
    Hot Towel
    AOS Lavender PreShave Oil
    Godrej Menthol Mist
    Neutrogena AS Balm

In an effort to counter yesterday's crummy shave, I swung for the fences on this one. Full on beard prep w/ warm water rinse, hot towel, sting in the background, the works. Busted out a fresh blade, my face-covering silvertip and the Menthol Mist, and went to work. And somehow still came up short.

I'm not sure if my technique is evolving in the wrong direction, or if something has changed in the setup. The razor feels more difficult to hold these days, but to me it doesn't look like I'm holding it any differently. But my cheeks are definitely not as smooth, neck not as close either, and I'm slicing myself a little more frequently. I told myself to slow it down and really be careful about it, and I was. But still I wasn't really satisfied with the results. Overall it wasn't that bad a shave and much better than yesterday's by quite a bit, but still not at all in the same league as the stellar performances I was getting with this same razor for over a week prior to these episodes. Frustrating.
