Max Schaefer makes some excellent soap. I won this one in a PIF last week. it was my first time with duck fat, and it did seem to make a very dense lather with plenty of slickness. The scent was spot on - like Canada Dry, not Vernors, with an almost lemony note in there somewhere. I used Lime, Ginger Tea tree splash with it because it's the only one that comes close to a match. It worked well. The Vision easily mowed down my three days growth with minimal discomfort.

This morning's shave(Sun)was a repeat of yesterday. Felt nice. But the Rise gets a rest for the next 4 or 5 days, as more humidity is coming. Should be some good Stoylin use this coming week.

 

When my last Rise ends, I may get Noxema in its place.

Coate’s Sandalwood Cream today. 20 seconds to load Whipped Dog Silvertip brush. Easy, thick, slick, lather. Personna Med Prep still in the Gillette NEW Long Comb. Excellent smooth, close, shave. I finished with Pino Silvestre Oud Abolute aftershave.

An easy 2 pass shave, WTG/ATG, hardly any clean up, resulting in a near BBS. Passed the Kleenex test without a red dot anywhere. My face is still a little sore from the Leaf razor, (returned it on Thursday). Well pleased with today`s outcome. God Bless to all.

I have to say that the modern labels and packaging from Catie's Bubbles is great in the last 8 months or so. Not that his old labels were bad, but the new look is glossy, embossed, stands out and grabs your attention. IMO, if this were sitting on a store shelf among other products your eyes would catch and lock on these creating the chance of an impulse buy. I hope Chris Cullen still has his stuff in a few retail stores because they would sell I think.

 

That's a seriously high-end summer shave.

 

I was excited about this shave for a whole day, but not for the reasons you might think. Yes, Stirling grapefruit with menthol is awesome, and yes, the Shavemac D01 is getting broken in and scritch is disappearing, but the real excitement came from the old Torrey straight razor in the back that is probably worth less than five bucks on eBay.
It’s a skinny blade, so I didn’t expect to like it, but today’s shave taught me that I really do. When I got it originally, it was totally ratted out. I sanded all the rust off, and restored it to a bit its former glory. Then I accidentally dropped it, and the scales broke at the pin - those will need to be replaced now. In the meantime, I purchased some stones and started learning to hone. I reset the bevel and got it sharp enough to shave with - barely - this morning, but I’ll probably need to send it off to @gssixgun to get it wickedly sharp once I put new scales on it. It’s a fun project, but it’s actually a special one too... the old ratty razor was given to me by my Father-In-Law; it was passed down from his grandfather to his father to him. He never took up straight shaving (nor did my brother in law), but when I started straight shaving he passed it on to me as a Christmas gift. After my first shave with it today, I’m excited that it’ll be a keeper that works it’s way into the rotation.
