Prep: Hot shower. Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub. Noxzema.

    Brush: Van Der Hagen Badger.

    Lather: Arko.

    Razor: The newly-arrived Merkur #34C.

    Blade: Shark.

Post: Cold water; Razorock Alum Block; C.O. Bigelow Dr. Galen Herbal Witch Hazel Skin Tonic No. 010.

    After: TSD Blue Spruce.

My high expectations for the Merkur 34C were completely met, and then some. Great BBS head shave. Loved the heft of the Merkur, and the size seemed well-suited to shaving my head. Plus it is just a gorgeous razor. Something about its industrial design and chunky shape plus how well put together it felt really appeals to me. The Shark blade seemed great... Will have to use them again. The Blue Spruce just felt right this morning, on the beginning of what feels like an Indian summer day here in Michigan.

A couple of observations from today's shave:

    1. The Arko lather seemed to dry up more quickly today. Not sure why. Had to re-lather more than usual and add some water to get the slip right.

    2. I seem to be drawn to the non-adjustable 2-piece or 3-piece razors lately. Something about them makes me feel more confident in knowing where the edge of the blade is, and I can do both the "buffing" maneuver and the J-hook thing to tidy up the tricky spots. And I haven't felt like I could do that as easily with the adjustables and TTO's lately. I played around with the ball end tech and the Lord L6 too, and they both felt better to me than the TTO adjustables have, and more precise than the Flare Tip too. (The Kronas still seem to be fine for me... Maybe because they are so mild to begin with?) The Merkur, the L6 and even the ball end tech have all had this "solidity" feeling that I haven't felt as much lately with most of the TTO razors.

Troy, to me the Stirling Glacials are the ultimate menthol experience. Never before have I used anything which can leave my face so comfortably frozen and with such smoothness and such a soothed feeling. My skin tends to be sensitive, not to mention also that I have a very tough and swarthy, fast-growing beard but when I shave with these Glacials, not only am I going to get a menthol wallop which I can feel practically all morning, my face's skin feels like it's been born again. I also love the scents of these soaps. :)
