Shave of the Day (SOTD) Wednesday September 26, 2012
    [IMG]
Prep: Brush soaking in warm water, face wash with Noxzema Triple Clean, tepid shower
    Razor: Merkur 1904 Open Comb
Blade: Feather New Hi-Stainless Teflon Coated (3)
    Brush: Semogue 820 Boar
    Soap: Tabac
    AS: Brut Original
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave

Feathers really make a mild razor like the 1904 shine. Two passes on face, three below jawline, and light buffing produced results better than a DFS. Started feeling the slightest amount of tugging so this blade was retired after this shave.

    Llyr Stay frosty, my friends!

    Wednesday:

    soak brush/Thater 4292/6 2 band,fan/DB Scuttle
    warm shower
    Proraso PrePost cream
    GFT Almond shave soap
    Gillette 40's style SS/Rapira Swede (2)
    warm water rinse
    Monster Block Alum
    warm water rinse
    Thayer's Original WH
The Veg mixed with a pea sized amount of 444

I skipped a day yesterday,my allergies were so bad my nose just wouldn't stop running :(
Today I had a wonderful 2 pass face and 1 pass headshave for BBS all around. The Gillette SS did a great job of smacking down those whiskers and head stubble :D

Great shave this morning. I used hot water and a scuttle. I may have to do this more often now that the weather is getting cooler First time with a sample of West Indian Limes from T&H, not wild about the scent but the shave quality was good. Too close to post shave to say much about the skin care but it seems good at this point. I've had samples of Trafalgar and 1805 and prefer their scent. Have a good one.

EJ DE86 with Shark Stainless & one shim
    EJ Super shedder badger medium
    Vintage American Surrey shaving soap
    Barbershop Bay Rum
    Astral cream
    Vintage Shulton Old Spice cologne
    3 passes and touch ups

Now apart from the Astral cream borrowed from my wife (she insists its mine because she says she doesn't use it) that felt like a proper 'man' shave. First time on the Surrey that a kind friend sent from the States and I loved it. Lathered up great, plenty of slick and cushion, great on the skin and proper manly scent. Reformulated nowadays I believe and not the same (why oh why do they always do this?). Shark blade felt pretty good but perhaps a little drag ATG on the top lip but that's probably just my learners technique. The shimmed EJ razor really delivers for me, definitely the best yet. Gonna stick a big solid stainless handle on it that I'm having made right here in Scotland to the exact design of the Rocket HD's but 16mm diameter and 100mm long. That's 5/8" by 4". Hopefully have it by the end of next month.

Thanks again for all the likes and the learning folks. I get a lot from reading everyone's posts here, seeing the kit you use, no. of passes, etc. Great stuff!

P.S. Crackstar, I know what you mean about feeling dirty but it can't be easy to 'square it' with yourself given your faith.

Love that brush Oscar! The knot size, shape of the handle and the color and marbeling are just gorgeous. Outstanding work there! :happy088:

    Proraso PSC
    Tabac SC
    Omega Boar
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Brut Original ASB
    Aqua Velva Musk ASL/Cologne

Day four with the Polsilver SI and it is still performing well. I thought it might be losing it's edge a bit but it's still got more quality shaves left in it. (I must not have stood close enough to the razor yesterday that resulted in the questionable performance instead of the blade. It's still doing fine; no tugging, very smooth feeling and effective beard removal. My bad!) :o

Java: Seattle's Best #5---BEST GROCERY STORE BRAND EVER

Soap: MJ's Tallow Peppermint Ice Soap

MJ's soap would be my everyday choice if I were ever to become to be a one soap guy.

Additionally, I would highly recommend a 3 piece Tech to anyone that is new to DE shaving. It was my first razor and I tend to use it for several days whenever it comes up in the rotation.

I don't think I have ever posted a Sos before. I found two Gillette razors in a housed I am demolishing so I cleaned them up and they are wonderful. One of them is a Gold Ball tech, the other is a Fatboy adjustable. I never understood why so many people rave about these razors. I have been using it since I found it trying to learn the mystique about these things. I tried it on five then going to nine. I tried it on nine for an entire shave. I mixed and matched with a three razor rotation in one shave. I've done all kinds of things but today I think I got it right. I started on nine. I lowered it to five for the next save. To do my last shave I did one half of my face on three, the other on one. When I used the razor on one it felt like my face was made of glass. The razor would just glide over my face like a Landspeeder in a Star Wars movie. Tomorrow I am going to try it on just a one or possibly on a Five\Three\One triple pass that way. I used Prorasso Sensitive shave soap with what is left of my Badger brush after my dog ate it (one year ago). I am going to put on Old Spice aftershave which is wonderful for me. I am sure everyone has their preference and Old Spice is mine. By the way, I used Merkur razor blades which are supposed to suck so I need to get a few of the different blades that come in a sampler packs. I did have some Feathers so I might order them. They are vicious though but in this machine I think I will be okay. I do want to find a NOS Fatboy for the correct price. I am also going to have to work on getting a top notch Badger brush but my money is limited since buying my mobile home after being homeless for four months. I will get it together though.
