  1. Description:
Made in a "Slow Cooker", formerly known as Crock Pot

Time: 20 min prep + 10 hrs cook
    Difficulty: Easy
Serving Size: 8 people, 10 oz each

    Ingredients:
    16 oz pkg split peas
    48 oz + 14 oz cans, low-sodium Chicken Broth
2 brimming handsful, diced cooked ham
    1 ham bone (9" long X 1" diameter)
    1 large carrot, diced
    1 large onion, diced
    3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 large potato, peeled and diced
    1 celery stalk, diced

    Preparation:
    1. Obtain bone-in ham
    2. Decide you want to make split pea with ham soup

    Instructions:
My brother, "vacuumtubedude", sent me an Arkansas peppered ham for Christmas: http://tinyurl.com/yapthqu . With the leftovers I made this, ahem, KILLER soup. The key is to substitute broth instead of water.

Wash peas. Combine ham bone, diced ham, peas, garlic, onion, carrots, celery, potato in slow cooker. Add broth. Cover.

Heat on "Simmer" or "Buffet" for 45 minutes, to slowly warm up the machinery. Raise heat to "Low" and cook on Low for 8-10 hours. Remove bone, give to neighbor's dog.

Plunge hand held Immersion Blender (wand) into soup and puree, here and there, a few seconds at a time, to smooth out some but not all of the soup. Stir with wooden spoon to mix chunky and creamy zones.

Serve. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Sounds good. I'll have to give it a try with the next Ham bone.
