As part of my life travels, I've watched a few Nuggets games with front office people. We actually discussed how analytics had completely changed the game, and now it's even caused rule changes in the NBA. It's also totally reprioritized the way cap money is allocated on free agents and role players. The NBA VPs have said that the analytics pretty much hold true, and injuries and great individual efforts/mistakes are what cause deviation in performance. "Moneyball" is dramatized truth, and a great story. Coaches like Pop and Steve Kerr have figured out that mathematics dictate only dunks or threes. The number of threes employed, and the ball rotation caused by the analytical shot selection, caused defenses to use rough close outs on the shooters. Guys like Curry and Parker were getting hurt, and the league tightened the restrictions on defending shooters with regard to a shooter's natural landing zone, enforced potentially as a flagrant foul.
North Dallas Forty was a good football movie, as were both versions of: The Longest Yard. Burt Reynolds was in NDF and the original TLY. Adam Sandler did the remake of TLY with Burt Reynolds playing a small part.
