I’ve just been popping corn and reading the thread, cause I’m kind of a dumbass that way, but after that last “plated” razor pic, I am really thinking Glen was right earlier, and there is a language barrier problem here???
I was also enjoying this debate. Yeah, I'm back in the "there's no such thing as a plated razor" camp. It just doesn't make sense to do it. It would be like plating DE blades just to throw them away. To plate a straight razor knowing it was going to be ground against a stone would be madness. I imagine there may be the odd one or two, created by a small cutlery maker who just hadn't thought it through, but not real Sheffield and Solingen straight razor firms.
Another Plated razor thread where someone actually posted pics of Real Plated razors the issues are quite obvious https://straightrazorpalace.com/razors/138302-plating.html#post1827122
I've seen some like the nickel plated ones, like on this site. But, the ones I've seen aren't flaking that bad. So, plated razors are true. I'm glad this debate can finally be put to rest. Thanks Glen. http://www.coticule.be/the-cafeteria/topic/676.html ...
I’m really good at eyeing witch one is witch so yes there has to be some truth in that. Carbon steel is a tad bit darker imo, and of corse you can get mirror finish with both but the stainless mirror is like a Crome white , where the other is like a satin mirror
