Me too but I tend to squeal like a teenage girl over Justin Beiber rather than the Beatles. Kidding, great write up. I'm in the collecting phase.

And I thought I was the only one that went to bed and woke up thinking about shaving. LOL! I was having guilty feelings about my obsession...

Thanks for helping me assuage my fears of being alone.

Thanks! I'll have to look for it. And I'll give the head shaving a try with the DE.

    Hi @TideFan195,
I bought the Ogallala from Amazon, via their company. I have Amazon Prime so that saved me the shipping cost. If I didn't have Prime I probably would have bought it direct from their site. I liked it but decided it wasn't for me... My wife did not care for it. It is a good scent, though if you don't like cloves, you probably won't like bay rum. Still, this seems to me now to be the very best of the bay rum scents out there. I've tried Master, Pinaud and a few others and the Ogallala seemed to me to be the only "premium" quality bay rum out of all of them. Though I think Captain's Choice would probably be great too... I have their "North" fragrance and like it.

As for head shaving, Troy and I seem to be of a similar mindset: I was fearful of it at first as well, and nicked myself a few times when I was starting out because I hadn't yet gotten any sort of technique down and I was still getting used to shaving my head anyway. But now, 3 months in, I rarely nick myself ... And then usually just when I haven't paid attention or when I tried to rush. Once you get a feel for the growth pattern and grain of your hair and the areas that are likely to be more difficult, it gets easier. For me, the back of the head is always a bit tricky and I've nicked the area above and behind my ear a couple of times.

Frankly if I could give you one piece of advice for someone who is thinking of head shaving with a DE, it would be to start with a Schick Krona if you can get one. I found that it was much easier to use -- and harder to cut myself with -- than any other "beginner" level razor.

Also, don't skimp on prep... I use Corn Huskers lotion sometimes as a prep, then a good shaving soap. And I have found that sometimes I need to lather up sections and shave each quadrant as I lather, or otherwise the lather dries out. (Which may have been part of the reason I was nicking the back of my head... I knew it was a trouble spot and saved it until last, and by then the lather had dried significantly.)

    Anyway, hope that helps!

I've had dreams of shaving at least 3 times in the last two months. Before my discovery of DE's and wet shaving, I don't think I ever dreamed of shaving.

Guess I showed my age a little there, although to be fair, I should have used Cheap Trick as the band since they are closer to my generation.

Thanks for the advice on both. I'll look on Amazon - I have Prime, so that will be nice to save on shipping.

I've had a Schick Injector in the past - how does the Krona compare? Is it also a single edge shaver like the Injector? If so, would my GEM single edge be easier? It has a large head, though, and is always tougher to use in tight spots, like under my nose.

Troy - I'm glad you are still enjoying it. After 4.5 years at it, it had become just another routine for me and I really wasn't all that excited about shaving any more. I had to travel for work and used a cartridge razor. It was enough to remind me of how much nicer a good DE with a brush and some soap was in comparison. I have a simplified den now as well, but enjoy what I have. I think you are definitely heading down the right path...

A Schick Krona is a double edge TTO (twist-to-open) razor. Not like an injector or GEM at all. It's just a very mild, easy to use razor. I've found that as long as you are careful with it -- it does use a double-edge blade after all -- it is fairly difficult to cut yourself with one because it is so mild.

This is one of my Schick Kronas.

Here's what it looks like with a blade in it.

The only thing I would say to watch out for with a Krona is the part where the razor blade ends stick out slightly. I learned the hard way that this area can nick the top of your ear if you shave above/behind your ears and don't pull your ear out of the way. See highlighted area in the pic below.

I don't shave my beard or mustache but I know that sometimes with DE razors or single edge razors your best bet is going "across the grain" (XTG) sort of east-to-west or west-to-east, since it's harder to go WTG or ATG north-south or south-north under your nose.

If you shave ATG under your nose (and don't floss) you get this:

I completely agree with everything you say Troy, I think you hit the nail on the head!! After 30+ years of shaving mostly for work and "HATING" it!!!:( I've now been "traditional" shaving for about 3 years and "LOVING" every moment of it! :happy088: I also "VERY" much enjoy the "hobby" aspect of it..:)

youngunn Where's my TSD aftershave balm???

I sometimes wish my beard would grow faster so I could shave again. It's why I've started asking to shave others, I guess I want to be a Barber when I grow up. Lol
