The bar had great lather with my loofah but from what other people said it was supposed to be a very good scent that fills up a bathroom. I didn't get a lot of scent off of it and it was more just a plain soap smell with a hint of good smell. I guess I put it on high standards and was expecting a TOBS Jermyn St. type of strong scent. Its not bad, don't get me wrong, just not as intense as I was expecting. As I was rinsing off, I felt "squeaky" and I usually don't feel that with the liquid body wash I have been using for countless years. Could also be the extremely hard water we have here in base. After drying, my skin feels softer and more moisturized than normal, which I do like. I'll exclusively use this soap until it's out to get the full effects and benefits of using a natural soap and see how much it will affect and change my skin in the long run.
The squeakiness is basically what you get with actual soap, body wash and non-soap products use other chemicals to get round that. I've used a few different Stirling scents. lime and the mentha scrub are very strong, to the point where they make the bathroom smell of their scent when they are just sitting out, but pink grapefruit hardly had a scent at all.
Ive used Dove for years and it never left me with any squeak because of the detergents. I hate that squeeky feeling. It is caused by hard water reacting with soap and leaving residue on your skin. Stirling does leave some squeak but only momentarily. Im guessing its moisturizing properties curb it. It has no where near the squeak and dryness I get from Ivory, Irish Spring, etc.
Dove isn't really soap. I had eczema on my hands and the dermatologist suggested dove because soap dries you out.
I've used the Lime, Bergamot Lavender and the Clubman and love the scents. I have the Pig Trail also and the scent on that is not as powerful as the Ozark Mountain shaving soap but it is very moisturizing. I enjoy matching the sower scents with the shaving soaps once in a while.
I just opened a bar of stirling body soap. I had it lying around a couple years...it doesnt smell like anything. It lathers and soaps ok though.
I've been using the Cocoa butter soap for awhile. It's great and moisturizes well. SWMBO loves the Oatmeal Shea Butter. I too like to pair my soaps with my shave scents when I can. I'll often use a shave soap as long as my bar soap lasts before I switch. Ialso use soap dishes so I can use a different soap every day if need be.
None of my soaps are a couple of years old so I cant comment on them losing the scent. Maybe the essential oils dry out over time? I think my oldest is maybe a year or so. I do notice some varieties seem to be more strongly scented than others. The sheep based soaps seem to have a stronger "soapy lye" scent to them. Im using a bar of lime this week its wonderful and leaves my skin feeling great.
I'm currently using Stirling Spice, and I have Barbershop and Pig Trail in the Queue. I'm really liking the way it makes my skin feel.
Rod included a sample of Apple Harvest in my order. I'm using it as a hand soap in the kitchen. It smells almost good enough to take a bite out of.
I'm working through Sharp Dressed Man and have Black Cherry on deck. I love it so far. I gave my girlfriend the sample of Tea Tree which she loves and have a sample of Barbershop for myself. Best soap I've ever used.
I have tarted so many if his soaps I started buying them a year ago ,, but I always come back to the Pig Trail once I told Rod that if he was to ever discontinue it I wanted to know so I could order all he had , as it is I keep 10 or so bars of it , Rod said he was very fond of it so it wasn't going to be dropped , all his soaps feel great , but PiG Trail is my scent Tc
I got Pig Trail for the first time a few weeks ago and I agree - great scent. I'd rate it right up next to SharpDressedMan when it comes to favorite bath soaps from him.
