They posted info on Facebook on a bunch of new products on the way, including brushes and razors. And iced coffee shave soap, which sounds pretty great to me. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=781479846509&id=214039412037213&__user=1239924395
I've gotten to try the cool, Sharp Dressed Man, Barbershop, and tried Bay Rum today. I really like The last three. The Cool was a nice menthol shave and had a great cooling effect. I have nothing to compare to as this is my first menthol but I thought it was nice. Sharp Dressed Man, Barbershop, and Bay Rum-wifey really likes these Emailed Rod at Sterling and asked about aftershaves in Sharp and Barber. He said he was working on Sharp Dressed Man and would start one on Barbershop. I agree w/ fram773. The scents stay with you which is good. Like I said, I don't have any shave soaps to compare to except VDH deluxe but I really like these soaps. Still have to try the Glacial (smells great), Tea Tree, and Electric Sheep. Tea Tree smell I don't care for, but I'll give it a fair try. Electric Sheep smells like citronella, but hey, the description says 'citronella'. I really wanted to try a sheep fat soap. I'll try Glacial tomorrow and let y'all know.
I haven't tried Electric Sheep, but his Scots Pine Sheep Soap is tied with Anise for my absolute favorite of his scents. Be forewarned: it will freeze your face right off.
I just ordered a bunch of his samples: Glacial Ozark Mountain Sharp Dressed Man Rose Ben Franklin Scotts Pine Sheep
OK, I like Stirling soaps. Old news. I just started my 3rd puck of Margaritas in the Arctic this morning. It almost scared me, it lathered so quickly and easily. I have rock hard water. This puck is Rod's new formulation. As expected, I got great slick, cushioning lather and a great shave! Just an FYI: the Stirling MITA is a perfect match with the Krampert's Frosbite aftershave relative to scent, performance, and conditioning, IMHO.
Here's a review of the Black Ice soap: Ease of lathering: 9/10--Not much work required. This soap is quite thirsty, however. Longevity of lather: 9/10--No problem that way either. Holds up well. General skincare: 9/10--Brilliant. NICE cooling effect and very protective against dryness or irritation. Scent: 8/10--Strong black licorice-type which lightens when you lather up. Very pleasant. Price: 10/10--Mine was a gift, but I know these soaps are very reasonably-priced. Would I buy again: 10/10--Any time. How couldn't I? My first shave with the Black Ice was this morning and I'm already very impressed with it. The lather is so easy to create and it didn't take me long to figure out the water/soap ratio. I'd rate the menthol effect as a small step down from the MITA, but it's still stronger than strong enough.
I just talked to a guy on another forum who asked if I would trade my HTSAM Frostbyte shave stick (don't really care for the smell) for a puck of Glacial with the wintergreen scent. Is this the new stuff? Is the lather better in this one vs the test? Thanks for any advice. Never tried Stirling soap before.
I had an email from Rod at stirling yesterday and they posted on Facebook that it turns out the glacial needs a linger curing time. It was recommended to leave it for a few weeks and it lathers just like any other of their soaps. I tried it yesterday and it lathered pretty well, bit required lots of water, and the smell was great. Strong peppermint and light menthol. Cooling was sting and just right! I don't think its officially called wintermint but some people say that's what it smells like. I think it more or less smells like pure peppermint.
I saw Rod's statement about the Glacial too. I just got a new sample puck. I am going to let it cure a bit and dive in again. The Glacial has a "High Pucker Factor". The ultimate menthol........ I don't know that it will replace my favorite MITA as my "go to" menthol puck, but I am going to give it a go again.....just to try and hang in with Jeff if nothing else!
YA i tried a sample of this soap I could breath right afterwards cleared me up almost like vicks vapor rub
When my puck arrives I may shave with swim goggles on. Nothing more dangerous than not being able to see while shaving. Can you say blood bath! Lol
I just used it again tonight and tried my Semouge 1305 rather than my VDH badger, plus a lot of water. I have to say that I got the best and most lather and had the closest, easiest and best feeling shave so far in my short DE shaving career. It's pretty great in my opinion.
I have a sample puck I've been saving for warmer weather...starting to feel like I ought to give it a try soon, though, despite it currently being 19 degrees here.
Tried electric sheep yesterday. It smelled like using a citronella candle. But the smell grew on me and the shave was great. It was very slick, invigorating for my face and one of my best lathers to date.
I'm continuing to work may way through the samples sent to me by Ryan B. I've used Stirling Orange Chill for the past couple of days and I have to say I really like it. It is very heavy on the menthol and will really freeze you face. I have determined that I have some menthol sensitivity, so 2 days in a row is about my limit. Ease of lathering: 8/10--This is a thirsty soap, but it works up a nice, creamy lather. Stability of lather: 7/10--I didn't have any problems at all with the lather deteriorating. I had enough for 6 or 7 passes. General skincare: 9/10--My skin felt very good after the shave. Because of my sensitivity to menthol, my face had several red splotches after the shave. However, they were gone after about 5 minutes. Scent: 9/10--Like getting slapped in the face by an orange grove. Price: 10/10--Ryan sent this to me as part of a PIF, but Stirling soaps are among the most reasonably priced soaps on the market. Would I buy again: Yes. This is an excellent soap that I really enjoyed. If you have ever used Stirling Margaritas in the Arctic, then you've essentially used Orange Chill. Just replace the lime scent with an orange scent. A cold water splash after using this soap will absolutely freeze you face off.
Rod gave me a puck of the Glacial for free since it was on clearance and i ordered a 6 pack sampler and some tins. I had tried stirling cool, and this is like antartica compared to that. I loved the winter green scent. So did wifey. Here's hoping Rod makes a Glacial AS so the scent can last longer.
