In my experience YES! No pain, no gain. It hurts but stops the blood.

I have a stupid question ... If you cut yourself shaving, where do you put the tourniquet? Around your neck?

If you do that, you shouldn't have been using a straight razor to begin with! :happy102 :happy102 :happy102

  4. Hi there,

Heh, I can see where that might be confusing...sorry for not making things more clear. The tourniquet is mostly for the straight razor users. Yeah, occasionally you'll read about a member trying to catch the thing while it was falling off the sink. It can be pretty exciting when done badly.......heh.

Anyway, that's the method you sometimes need to stop the flow of any gushers or spurting caused by partially severed body parts.

    I hope that helps,
    Martin

Oh........most straight razor users do NOT shave without pants for that very reason.

    Two words - Styptic POWDER

No stinging. No need to push a hard pointy styptic pencil in a wound - OUCH! Powder guys! Powder!!

Moisten your finger slightly, cover the opening, shake upside down once, apply powder painlessly. yeah!!

(and I am not plugging classicshaving, it was the only picture I could find of this stuff.)

Is there a difference between a styptic pencil and an Alum Block?
I thought styptic pencils where made with alum anyway. Looking at the ingredients listed on some pencils they say they are made with alum.
