I normally keep mine in their original containers with little to no discernible loss of quality or scent. If I know I'm not using a soap for awhile, I will store it in a ziplock bag and place it in a tupperware container with a tight fitting lid. Never had a problem this way.
I am really glad I stumbled across this thread! I have 8 different soap samples that I have been dying to try but I only have one Old Spice mug that currently has my puck of Fine "Platinum" living in it. Which also brings up...that I would LOVE to get a lid for it as well @Jayaruh I also have a half dozen of the Ziplock containers with the screw on lids...just sitting in a kitchen cabinet. Now...they just got a new use! It never dawned on me to use them for those samples. Excellent idea! Regarding the Old Spice mug...I just leave it out open after I use it. If it accumulates a little dust on the puck, I just rinse it off and then add water to bloom. It lathers up just as good as it always has and it hasn't seemed to lose any scent...but I'd still like to get a cover for it. Great thread!
Some how, I lost my other quotes. I have a collection of containers for my shaving soaps. I try to keep them in the original containers, but I have a bunch, of containers thanks to @Salty Belle
For all but one of the soaps I use, I just keep them in their original containers. I keep VDH in the black apothecary mug with no lid because the scent is so mild that I can't even tell if it's lost much scent.
Now that I buy soap in decent to nice containers. , I leave the soap in them. Starting out I bought refill pucks to try stuff and I used a plastic salsa bowl . I'd keep the box or package the refill came in. I'd put what I wanted to use in the bowl, when I was done I'd rinse off the puck, rinse out the bowl, flip the bowl over and let the puck sit and dry on the under side of the bowl until the next day. ( Salsa bowls have feet so air gets under the puck.)Then I'd put it in its original package. It worked great.
